question about tarot cards and the Court Arcana?

Long ago I took a class on how to read tarot cards. They went over symbols and glanced over what each card means, however I seem to have a hard time understanding the court arcana. Every time a king, queen, page and espically knight come up I get completly lost. I was taught to look at the picuture and figure the meaning from the symbols and what I see going on but I can't seem to do that with the Court Acrana. Anyone have any suggestions on how to figure these out? I have tried reading several books but nothing will stick in my head. Oh I am sorry I am using the Ryder Waite deck... I am at work and not allowed to download and IM programs- Also leaving in 10 min. I can't seem to figure out what these cards mean to me- that's why I turned to the books

  1. what cards are you using sweetie ? it may be simply a difficult deck for you to read and you aren't linking well with them throw the books away though look at the card ... into the card ... around the card say what you see and what it means to you and how you relate that to the person you are reading and relate it to the surrounding cards xxx edit Mable .. if you are on IM , I would gladly help if you get in touch edit yes I thought so Ryder are good for beginners ... but they really do require book meanings then all you are getting is the same old same old with each reading
  2. Pangel is right. Throw the books away. What's important is what the cards mean to YOU not anyone else.
  3. I found that if I tried to imagine the card as someone I knew, it helped. I was in high school when I started to read them, so I saw the Queen Of Cups as my art teacher, the Queen of Rods as the school counselor, etc. It can also be someone famous who has similar qualities. I don't agree with some of the readers that a court cart always means a person--I don't exactly have a large enough social circle for that! But the qualities embodied by the people I use as mnemonics helped me.
  4. The court cards *usually* symbolize a person or particular type of energy influencing the mix. I have trouble with the court cards myself since they tend to go back and forth for me and I don't know yet which way it's going until the moment passes.
