Finding Names for Querant when reading Tarot Cards?

I use the Rider-Waite deck and I can't understand how to find a name of a person when the Querent asks for someones name. Is there certain alphabet letters for each Major Arcana card that I am do not know about? Any help would be appriciated.

  1. The card for the questioner isn't quite that critical a thing...All the card is meant to do is to "stand in" for the questioner...Usually people stick to the court cards (King-Queen-Page-Knight) of one of the four suits, and either match a rough physical description to one of those, or go with a feeling of what card would best represent the questioner...It's really not that critical a decision...I sometimes don't use the card...what's more important is all the other cards of the spread... but that's just me...If you need more, than come up with something, and go with it...trust your feelings Luke...*cough* sorry bout that...
  2. Yes, there is a Hebrew letter associated with each major arcana, that you could use to create names or words. Check out http://www.themysticeye.com/info/tarothebrew.htm for a start, and if you want to learn more about the associations of the Hebrew alphabet to the cards, I'd recommend reading "The Chicken Qabbala" by Lon Milo Duquette, or "the Tarot" by Paul Foster Case. You should also know that different occultists have used different systems of attributions for the letters, so you may want to learn which (if any) the creators of the particular deck you are using, had in mind. The link I just gave you shows what are pretty much the most common attributions. That being said, usually tarot is better for seeing the whys and hows of a situation, than determining specifics like names and dates. You also might want to consider the ethics about reading cards for people who are not in the room.. if you say that a particular person will/did do something, and that person is not there to tell you whether you are correct or not, it's a little bit unfair to that person, in my opinion, if you happen to be wrong. edit to add after seeing the above post: Yes, you can also use the court cards.. good suggestion! They will not give you names, but could offer a portrayal of basic personality traits, or a (very) rough physical description. You could also use astrological correspondances to determine a person's birthdate or sun sign, using the cards.
