Experienced Tarot readers.................?
I am new to learning about the cards. I have my own "abilities" and have not needed the tarot until now. I am using them to help me focus and get a clearer understanding. I have started learning about them and did several readings for myself and several for some friends at the moment so that I can familiarize myself with them and connect. My question is, though, each reading I have done for myself I have noticed that the Major Arcana are the most laid out and I usually have had only one or two of the minor arcana come into play. Is there a reason why the Major Arcana are the most prominent in my readings for myself and not for others? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you. Please, no snide remarks, this is part of my belief and if you do not agree then let's agree to disagree. Thank you. I know reading for myself is not the most accurate, but this has happened to me off and on most of my life when others have read for me. I was just wondering why the Major rather than the minor? Is there a significance to a Major layout rather than a balanced or minor layout? I guess I should have been more specific. Mel, those are the exact cards that kept coming up. I have been feeling a great change coming through my "abilities" and feeling from them. I have been worrying about what it is because it is more of a nagging feeling like I need to pay attention to what is about to happen very soon and I can't tell if it will be very good or very bad but it will be one of the extremes. I hate that constant feeling. Right before solstice I felt it more strongly and it had my senses on alert, but now it seems to be idle but still that weird feeling of what is to come. I may try to re read them tonight since I have done my majority of the reads in the day. See if the calm of the night can make things clearer.

- I'm an experienced tator tot reader
- Actually dear, all the professional tarot readers I know do all their predictions without the cards. They are just a prop to impress the clients.
- No, there is no significance to having mostly Major Arcana in your spread, the cards simply mean what they mean at that moment. I am sure as you do readings for yourself more and more you will notice variations in the cards, based on what goes on in your life seen and unseen. Just remember the Tarot is a tool nothing more, so you should take more stock in what your heart says above all else.
- Hello Why don't you join my forum, lots of tarot folk there! some newbies, others old hands, so you can ask what ever you need to understand tarot more & we have tarot tasks etc. We also need some novice readers! A predominance of majors shows that life is not under your control as they are the undercurrent energies that carry us along. Sadhara
- I believe in your heart there are many things that are of deep significance and important to you going on...but actually its not really accurate for you to do the reading on yourself...
- I find that when the majority of a spread is made up of the Major Arcana then there is usually a large change coming. That's for me though, and it may not ring true for you. A lot of readers have a difficult time reading for themselves as it is hard to be unbiased or impartial.
- When I read for myself, I also tend to lay out more Major Arcana cards. These cards are often indicative of your spiritual progress and spiritual development as opposed to more mundane facets of your life. I would surmise that you have a very rich spiritual life, and the tarot is a means of bridging the material/physical and spiritual realms. I would definitely pay attention to these Universal nudges.
- I will make a guess. It is not so much that your lay out has so many major arcana cards that is meaningful. It is the lack of court cards that is meaningful. You are a loner. My best guess.
- I'm so glad to find this question. Contrary to what some say, having mostly Majors or all Majors in a spread is QUITE important. It means that forces more powerful than you are at work in your life, or that there is a huge change occuring. Each major has a card or cards in the minors that basically has the same meaning, so if the major one shows up instead of the minor, it means that it's more of an unstoppable, supernatural, universal force than just the wiles and wims of humans. Essentially, God or the gods or whatever you believe in is at work in your life... take heed.
- I tend to agree with the majority of the other poisers and would say that there are facets of your life that are undergoing major changes that are beyond your capacity to control. YOu need to identify those influences and figure out what you need to do in order to bring these factors under control. Brightest Blessings, Raji the Green Witch
- Well from what I hear, it means that you are at a turning point in your life. The minor arcana, in my opinion, means minor details. So maybe there is nothing minor right now that needs to be talked about. Another thing it could be is that your guides are trying to point out to you what major arcana card represents you at this time because it will give you great insight as to what you should be focused on right now. My suggestion is to take out all the major arcana cards and work with them. Once you get a feeling for the message that you are getting, you can confirm it by using the other part of the deck that doesn't have the major arcana in it. I read this somewhere in a book on learning to use the tarot but I can't remember the name of it. My psychic vibe is that you are drawn to tarot right now for some details and wisdom about your own self exploration and that your guides are helping you to shed some light on your life path...which feels like big changes coming your way to me. Good ones, if you understand why they are happening. That is what the tarot is there for...for you. I think it would help if you do a layout that has a 'self' position in it. I would be very interested to know which one it would be. I am thinking of a few...like The Star, The High Priestess and The Hermit....and the World....and the Sun.
- I was always under the impression that the Major cards had more definite answers, more direct, more obvious whereas the minor cards were more subtle, hence the names major and minor. I have been reading cards for about 25 years but I tend to use my instinct more than what the books say. Not ideal I know but it seems to work for most people. I have never used the minor cards, for a number of reasons. The main one being I do not know what they mean apart from the meaning of each suite. I have had some negative comments about my 'style' of reading from more experienced readers though. I think everyone has to find a way that suits them and this way suits me. I know I have not answered your question as such but I hope I have been of some help to you.
- Well, statistically about 30% of the cards in a reading should be Major Arcana. IE, in a 10 card Celtic Cross, you should expect to see 3 Trumps. If you see 5 or more, then that's statistically un-normal. If you see 1 or zero, then that's also un-normal. If I see an excess of Trumps, I tend to listen a little more attentively. It's almost as if the reading is shouting to be heard -- trying to say "This is something you really need to think about!" If there's a lack of Trumps, I still see it as a valid reading -- just not all that momentous.
