How do you call God?
Im new to the concept of God, i didnt believe in Him before. When i pray, i dont know how to call him. Because when hearing/saying "God" i can see an old man with white beard who looks like man. But thats not what i believe he is! I believe that its a spiritual being without gender, omnipotent, present everywhere and that "it" created universal energy that i use for healing. Do you have some suggestions concerning how should i call it in my prayers? Id like to give it some name and not just "higher power" in order to gain better relationship with it. But dont you think its rude to look for name for it just like i would like to name my pet? wont it be angry because i do that? I know its a weird question :-) please dont tell me to call him Jesus or something similar. Thanks!

- HE IS WHO HE IS and HE is JESUS CHRIST as in human body and agian JESUS is the ONLY WAY TO HIM (GOD) So you MUST pray and ask GOD to hear your prayers ONLY through JESUS CHRIST
- I pray to "my father in heaven" or Lord
- I call Him Father
- Just call him God, and talk to him like you talk to a person, of course we worship him, but just talk to him. Start with: In the the Name of God, and start praying with your hands together. God is wonderful and you can speak to him anytime, many people call him their best friend, and when u speak out ur probs, you feel like he is answering u, even though u dont hear anything. just talk to him, when i am sitting alone somewhere, i just speak to him, thank him, and pray to him.
- The prayer of faith James 5:13-16 13Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. 14Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. 16Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. Luke 18:1 1Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. Matthew 6 Jesus’ teaching on prayer 5"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9"This, then, is how you should pray: " 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11Give us today our daily bread. 12Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. AMEN
- Ok you dont have to call god just talk its like being a crazy person and talking to yourself But i seem it is worth it
- Most True Christians call HIM ""HEAVENLY FATHER""
- I call Him, Father God. when I pray I try to see the throne of God described in Revelation. Praying does take time to get use to. It is kind of like a habit. once you get comfortable in it you can't do without it.
- our lord savior in heaven
- I like to call Him Father, because that is just what He is, our loving Father. I also call Him Lord a lot.
- When you pray just talk to him, he is listening. Read the bible and join in a membership class at your church or talk with other followers at your church to receive a better understanding of your religion. Welcome to being reborn it will change your life.
- Any name you find here is just going to be the invention of someone's brain-- not actually true. I think maybe you should just get in the habit of addressing everything around you. Maybe prayer shouldn't be isolated from the rest of your existence. If God is everywhere, why do we need churches?
- i either put him on speed dial or i open up my bedroom window and scream as loud as i can HEEEYYYYYY GGGOOOODDDD. that usually works becuase then i hear someone scream back"GO TO HELL"
- First of all HE is not an It! do you have a bible. you can look in there and see who He really is! He is the almighty, our savior, our King of kings, comforter, when you pray : Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name.....I pray that your walk with Him will be wonderful. Keep pushin on!!
- Try out some phrases. I like: Great One Merciful One Holy Creator Giver of Life and Light Wise Master Universal Being The Ever-Present Beautiful Mother and Compassionate Father (yes, both at once...) Say each item from your list and imagine what that being might look like. When you find a Name that suits your ideal, use it with reverence. My in-laws are Christians, and I am wicca, so whenever we have family meals, I use the name "Holy Creator" at grace. Any name you choose for The One, The One shall answer to. Blessings!
- so what you are saying is that you have made up your own god and you now want to name it , right ? how bout king kong , you could chant oooooooommmmmmm ooooooommmmm , meka leka hi meka heide ho , or you could chant hey hey , ho ho , the west has got to go , or you could worship the everlastinf gob stopper , or you could name your god " THE ALL HIGH TOILET HOG " then when you flush you could call a sacrifice , a gift , ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh lah
- Hi. The bible says that God calls Himself "I am." See, it doesn't matter in what year you call on Him, He is Who He is, and it is always the present for Him. So, calling Him "I am" is appropriate. Also, He goes by these names: Friend, Healer, Abba, Father, Counsellor, Wonderful, Jesus, Name above All Names, Beautiful Savior, Glorious Lord, Immanuel, God Is with Us, Blessed Redeemer, Living Word, Yahweh, Author, Judge, and so many other names. Below is a site, appropriately called "The Names of God." Oh, and He's a he. Many Blessings!
- Hi there!! You don't necessarily have to call Him anything----He knows that you're talking to Him, and He is always listening. I normally start my prayers with "I know You're there, and that You're listening. Thank you..." and I go from there. He loves you regardless of what you see Him as or what you call Him! :) God Bless!
- God answers to 'Howard'. (Our father, who art in heaven; Howard be thy name...)
- dear lord
- Ed, listen, don't look 4 it, it`s taboo 2 use! More, I read when interested zi same , human being ain't able 2 deliver or articulate, or sound`IT, cause we have different (unaccustomed) speech apparatus!) So, don't waist Ur time 4 fake! Best regards! It`s nice U looking it! The same do I)!
- His real name is Arthur As in, "Our father who Art in Heaven ... "
- My Goodness, Don't listen to those who are telling you to call howard and those who believe in wicca. God is the Almighty creator of heaven and earth. And hey, don't you ever call Him it!! He says "I am who I am" When praying, call Him heavenly Father. I advise that you read the book of John in the Bible. Since you are a starter, begin with that book and believe me, you'll get to know more about God. And hey, You cannot get to God unless you go through JESUS CHRIST. He said "Iam the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me" So if you think you can pray to God and eliminate Jesus, you are wrong. If you want to be a true Christian(you either be hot or cold, there is no in-between. You are either for God or for satan) you better believe in Jesus Christ. When you pray, ask everything in Jesus' name. The bible says "whatever you ask for in my name, you will have it.' read the whole book of john, that is where you will find the answer to your question and much more than you ever knew. God is not some old fella. He's glorious. He's Merciful, He's Holy. remember every time you start to pray, God listens to you. and God answers all prayers. Whether it is a yes or a no, or wait, He sure does answer all our prayers. God bless you.
- within. go within. be within. there we are all one and one is god. within. within.
- living life force... with in me , i call upon you the Devine mother , help me. Devine goddess/gods, help me. you may not get the big cheese at first, but she has a lot of worker that answer the calls
- dear father God up in heaven is the way that I do it He is the way when you have no way he is you father mother your family,
- Read Isaiah 42:8, 1 Corinthians 8:5,6 and then Psalms 83:18. Read these scriptures and decide for yourself what you should call him when you pray to him................
- I 800 SUPREME (Dial extension 1 for the father, 2 for Christ, 3 for the Holy Ghost, 4 for St. Peter, stay on the line for the operator, Mary.)
- I think you should look inside yourself for the answer. Maybe you also should research some different religions. I call him Allah, but that is just my choice. This is something that you find out for yourself. Look inside and feel your answer. It will come to you. And no matter what you choose to call Him, no He loves you.
- Angela M points out a smidgen of how many names by which a diety can be known. I use that phrasing to include all, I hope. I think of it this way when asked how to address a deity. Various religions claim that you should use this name or that - God, Yahweh, Jehovah, Allah, Goddess, Supreme One, so on and so forth. I vote you figure out which fits your heart best and use that one. I doubt your God cares what name you use, so long as you two talk. Explained: (and I'm NOT proclaiming to be a deity or anywhere near - this is an analogy of sorts) I have a full name given to me by my parents, and nicknames given to me by friends, family, and people I work with, or see in class. Each person uses the name he or she feels fits me best, often based upon that person's relationship with me. There are certain people who would be shocked to hear what others call me, but I know they're talking to me. They all refer to me. Just as I'm a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a cousin, a niece, a friend, a coworker, an employee, a teacher, etc...many hats sit upon my head, each fitting me in that circumstance. Again, I state that I doubt the God you worship really cares what name you use, if you choose to use one, so long as you two talk. Heck, if you can't find a name that fits your heart for your deity, don't worry...talk with your heart; that's what matters in the end. I wish you well on your journey and peace as you travel.
- i call him "father in heaven"
- You may call HIM.... "My Divine Creator" or "My Shield" or "My Spiritual Father" or "ABBA FATHER".... Yes, Abba Father is the best!
- Call Him Father.
- Just start praying and talking to him.
- just sya Oh God
- Good question. Talk to God the way you would a friend. Afterall, that is what God is a true friend to us. I don't really think the name is as important as the feeling behind it. You may call him, God, Father, Father God, Jesus or another name; just do it in love and respect as you would wish him to do to you.
- his name is Jehova you can add attachments to it to be more specific like Jehova rapha or Jehova neice or Jehova shama which mean different things like lord my banner lord my savior etc. i just call him father
- umm.say in the name of jesus christ and then lay ur fear infront of his feet or something
- Hi, When I pray, I say, "Dear Heavenly Father", or, "Oh Lord'. At my Church a little 3 year old girl says, "Dear Jesus up in Heaven", and a teenage girl says, "Dear Daddy up in Heaven," it's what you feel comfortable with as long as it is respectful.
- try praying like your writing a letter. Start with Dear God, Hi its me again. Or Write the letter and seal it in an envelope address it to God and hide it. I have opened these letters that I wrote 30 years before and it was very enlightening. I had forgotten what I wrote and saw how my life had changed so much. Some had been answered and some thank God were not.
- GOD is love when someone gives another a drink when they are thirsty. There you see him When someone cloths someone who has dirty rags on. You will catch a glimps of him again. When you see yourself buy a homeless person a meal He wispered the inspiration in your ear. When you visit your mother , father, sister or brother in the hospital and your presence is enough to calm their fear. He drove you there. when you visit your friend who has just got in trouble and went to jail. He handed you the courage to enter and opened the cage for you. The greatest of these is when you sacrifice your own life. That another may live Now When you learn to do all these things for the person you think is not deserving of them you have learned how to love, and you have embraced the spirit . Call him what you may but there is a secrete by no other name is man lead to the father but throught the son.
- Welcome to the faith!! The Bible (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth) has answers to all our questions.. it is our manual for life inspired by God and is ithe infallible word of God.. the book of mathew answers your question Prayer 5"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.[a]' 14For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
- First off, I would like to suggest you look in your bible for information regarding prayer. You can find prayer in the "glossary" at the back, and it will give you tons of information. If your uncomfortable calling him "God" I would suggest "father" or "Lord". Calling him "it" though, is a bit...un-reverant, considering the connotations that "it" goes hand in hand with. Keep in mind, he DID create the universe. I don't mean to say that I think your bad or anything for wondering, I just want to present to you the idea of reverance for God and the fact that we need to honor him. Its awesome thought that you are searching! Ok, I hope that helps! :)
- When I pray, I call Him Heavenly Father. There are many translations of God in the Bible. Jehova, Almighty, etc. I have a friend who, when she prays calls Him Daddy. God is a He. If you read the Bible, you will find that clearly. The Bible talks about the FATHER in Heaven. Hope you find something comfortable for you, and good luck on your new journey.
- If God is everywhere and everything, then why would God need a name, as then God would be the names of everything everywhere.
- same as you i really dont believe in some rules made by man, Religion. and to answer your question i dont have to call him with anything cuz his always in my heart just whispher and he'll hear you
- Just call him/her/it "God". When starting a prayer many people say, "Dear God" (as if they're starting to write a letter). Jesus is a separate being and may not necessarily be who you want to address. God is a nice, easy name; and its the name most people use. You know what you think of this "force", so after a while you won't be picturing the man with the white beard on a cloud. Of course, since it can be hard to picture a force there's probably nothing wrong with imagining the God-on-the-cloud thing either. It doesn't matter what you picture. It matters what you say.
- heavenly father or lord or father
- Dear Eldridan God knows when your talking to Him. You can call Him Dear Heavenly Father and just talk to Him.
- You can call Him the benevolent.
