What are Tarot Cards?
've heard so much about Tarot Cards. I know they are really to contact the dead, but what exactly do you do? And can I make Tarot Cards out of a deck of cards? Also does each card mean something? If so please tell! Thanks!

- Actually they're used for divination (predicting past/present/future), not contacting the dead. Different readers have slightly different ways of doing it, but basically: the Tarot reader sits down with the person who wants a Tarot reading, then the reader does a spread (a certain layout of cards taken from the shuffled deck), and interprets them, both individually and how they might relate to each other. Yes, you CAN actually make your own Tarot deck. Get 78 cards, and put the 78 Tarot arcana on them. Yes, each card means something. You COULD do a Tarot-like reading with a standard deck of 52 cards (hearts = cups, clubs = rods/wands, spades = swords, diamonds = coins/pentacles, jacks = page or knight). But you'd be limited to only the minor arcana cards ("The 3 of Swords", "The King of Wands", etc.) and wouldn't have the major arcana ("Death", "The Tower", "The Lovers", "The Sun", etc.)
- a spooneristic version of Carrot Tards.
- Eurgh. Tarot cards do NOT contact the dead, neither are they anything to do with mysticism or psychicness. This is a falsehood made up by stupid 'psychics' wanting to make money. REAL tarot cards are an old tradition used in many cultures as a way of revealing things to them. In most cultures, these cards were actually a game - only a few cultures saw them as truth. REAL tarot readers do not claim to be psychic or mediums. Real tarot readers use the cards the way that the cards were originally intended. Real tarot readers will readily admit that the cards are not always right at all, and do not allow themselves to perform cold readings. Each card does have a meaning. If you get a genuine tarot reader, the cards can be scarily accurate sometimes - but half the time, theyre not. They are not intended to believed to be right all the time - for it has nothing to do with psychics.
- They can be used from trying to contact spirits to telling past, present, and future.I think you can use a regular deck but I am a christian so you may want to address the question to wiccans or another similar group for a more acurate answer. Each card does have an individual meaning but I do not remember them. Please think hard b/f using them I would prefer you didn't.
- AHHHHHHHHH dont do it!! thats all bad, they dont contact the dead, they let demons in ur house it happend to my friend and her little brother broke his arm cuz he got thrown 2 the other side of the room, and doors would open and close at night and windows would brake..omg it was creeeeepy
- Tarot cards are another of Satan's inventions to keep you occupied so you will not have time to study God's Word! These cards do not contact DEAD people, they really contact Satan's evil demons who are pretending to be dead people. Just as we have good (guardian) angels, we also have one of Satan's evil demons with us at ALL times so they can imitate us after we die. Deuteronomy 18:10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, :11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. :12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. :13 Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.
- Tarot reading revolves around the belief that the cards can be used to gain insight into the current and possible future situations of the subject. Some believe they are guided by a spiritual force, such as Gaia, while others believe the cards help them tap into a collective unconscious or their own creative, brainstorming subconscious. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarot You can make your own, but it's a lot of work.
- It is not for contacting the dead, if you know how to read it you can read about your past, present and future, it is very interesting.
- Tarot cards are not used for contacting those in the afterlife, they are tools used in the ancient art of Divination... and yes, you can make your own Tarot cards with regular playing cards, in fact, playing cards were actually based off of Tarot cards, that is probably why the Christians have thought they were evil for so long, because they thought Tarot was evil.... and again, yes, each card means something different, you can get books on what the separate cards mean.... Hope this helped
- How many times a day is this Q asked? Do a search for the Question. I have answered this Q repeatedly. They are a deck of cards invented in Italy in the 13th or 14th century. They were used to play a game like Bridge. In the late 18th century, a French occultist who also was a clergyman saw the cards for the first time and decided that they has special mystical and magical meaning and thought they came from Egypt from the Gypsies (even though Gypsies originally came for India LOL). The cards meant certain philosophical and cultural things to 14th century Italians. They meant something completely different to 19th century occultists. There are a gazillion books and Web sites discussing the meanings and also discussing the make believe history of Tarot as if it were true. You can certainly make your own Tarot Cards and you can use a regular playing deck to tell fortunes. I have essays on Tarot on my 360 blog but the essays are close to the beginning so you have to drill through a lot of stuff to find them. Also I recommend a book on the Tarot (that you can find on amazon.com) by Cynthia Giles
- Well, for a better picture, let's start with regular playing cards. These arrived in Europe from the Islamic world during the late 14th century (probably not earlier than 1370) in much the format as we have today - four suits, each with 10 pip cards and 3 court cards. The original suit signs were swords, polo sticks, cups, and coins. The game of polo was not familiar to Europeans at the time, so that suit became batons and these suits are now known as the Latin suits - all of Europe used them at one time. The court cards were a king, a rider, and a footman - all male court cards are still used in many countries. The first instance we have of a queen is in a Milanese pack featuring 6 courts in each suit - a male and a female of each rank. The number of courts reduced again but for some time the queen was retained in a 56 card pack. It was to this pack that an extra suit was added to create the tarot pack. The first tarot was commissioned in the mid 15th century by the Duke of Milan for the wedding celebrations for his daughter, Bianca Visconti's marriage into the Sforza family. The extra suit of cards took as it's theme, not an occult philosophy or magical symbols but a traditional Christian triumph procession of the time - hence they were called trionfi, meaning triumphs, and from which we get our word trump. Some historians suggest that they specifically represent the procession that was held to celebrate Bianca's Birth in 1425. It was the invention of tarot that marked the invention of trumps in card games and this was the original use of tarot, for playing card games. For 350 years they were used for nothing else, becoming, at one point, the most popular form of card game in Europe. I'm happy to say that the games are still played! These days the games are usually played using a French suited pack, although the old Italian suits and trumps are still used in Italy, Sicily, and Switzerland. The practice of using French suits began in Germany (hence it is often called the German pattern) in the late 17th century and they became widespread for the same economic reasons that French suits became dominant for regular playing cards. The Latin suits required costly woodblock printing, while the French suits could be reproduced with a simple stencil!
- Hello Connor Tarot are not for Mediumship, they will not help you to make contact with a loved one in spirit, but they will help you develop your Clairvoyant nature & the relationship that you have with your guides. You use tarot for guidance, insight, meditation, personal development & psychic growth. Yes you can make tarot cards, just as you can make anything else. But you need to understand what they are first. It can take years to develop a relationship with them. Sadhara
