- Tarot cards... as far as buying them, you can try finding a witchcraft (or whatever you want to call it) store. My own deck is Universal Tarot. It's quite straightforward (though I don't trust the spreads they give- they're not really good). I've also heard the Rider-Waite deck is good. Most decks come with a small booklet about the basic meanings of each card. As far as spreads... I personally prefer well-established ones like the tree of life.
- The many different tarot decks will all portray symbolic imagery which must then pass through your psychic senses and, given the context of the questions asked, bring forth a tarot card meaning that significantly answers your question. If you are using Tarot cards as an oracle, you may be more inclined to read card meanings and spreads. But if using Tarot Cards as a tool for Psychic Ability you would be less likely to hold to any hard and fast guide lines. I’m a profession psychic and use Tarot Cards in a random way. In 25 years of professional readings I’ve never used any ‘meanings, spreads or reversals’ of tarot cards from any books. So if you want to develop ‘Psychic Ability’ throw the books and guidelines away and let the images inspire you. But you may need to try the Rider Waite or another imaged deck. Here’s the how-to of reading tarot cards with your psychic perception in six simple steps. http://www.psychic-junkie.com/reading-tarot-cards.html You can use this four minute video as a brief meditation on the tarot that, repeatedly viewed, will help you learn how to read tarot cards psychically. http://www.psychic-junkie.com/tarotvision.html To tap in to it more you can go to my free psychic development pages here: http://www.psychic-junkie.com/develop-psychic-ability.html But on the other hand, if you want to use the Tarot as an oracle, a form of divination that needs no real ‘psychic ability’, then keep the books and use the meanings and spreads if you prefer. Here is a free download demo for a great Tarot program. To keep the size of the demo manageable it contains the Rider/Waite deck, the actual program will have 10 complete decks. This Demo version of Tarot is a full working copy for 30 days. So you get 30 days to study meanings and spreads! http://www.free-tarot-download-demo.wotsnext.com There are a couple of good documentaries about the Tarot on http://www.MyPathTV.SimplySeen.com Here’s the how-to of reading tarot cards with psychic perception in six simple steps. http://www.psychic-junkie.com/reading-tarot-cards.html
- hello Jade First where you can buy them - on line, new age shops & regular book shops. Make sure that you get a deck that you like so that you can build a strong relationship with them. At the same time you should be able to buy a good detailed book as well. Now - how to use them. Tarot can be used on many levels, they can take years to master - Tarot are complex, so no rush, you will need to be patient. You can attend workshops, people like myself run correspondence courses, you can find a friend that is also interested so that you can practice together, there are online communities etc. Within each deck you will find a somewhat, uninformative small booklet which will give you small amount of info. Find out the basic references & energies attatched to the cards, sit with your cards - get a feel for them. Stick to single card interpritations at first & reversed cards are best left until you understand the upright. There are so many pointers that I could be here all day! A good book will help you out & get you started. In Peace Pam
- You can purchase tarot cards in many places but if you go to a metaphysical store they usually have many open decks to explore. Get the one that you feel the strongest response to. I use the Crowley Thoth deck and get amazing results from it, probably because I feel a deep connection to the images. Incidentally- I don't read reverses. There are enough cards that point to adversity in the upright position to give you any warnings you might need. Also see if you can get a detailed companion book so you can study the cards. Lastly- take each card, really focus on the image and write down your impressions. Then cross-reference it to your book to see how YOU interpret the images as the book is only a guide. Your innate spirituality is where the truth of the cards lies.
- Get the Rider Waite cards. They are the most widely purchased cards in the world. Go to Amazon and get them. A lot of stores treat you like you are nuts if you ask for them.
