Mystical Angels

Are mystical experiences the same as religious experiences?

Ok, so mystical is usually where you are experiencing something where you are one with God or in the presence of God, is religious experiences considered the same? How come mystical experience people are called Mystics? Im confused about this...and how does this pertain to William James? Does he distinguish both?

  1. mystical experiences are a type of spiritual experience. theres no necessarily ethics or observance required. hence, not religion
  2. Yes, basically. Those religious experiences are usually turned into a religion, at that point all mysticism is usually lost, which reinforces the notion that one ought to have their own religious views and experiences and not worry about what the rest of the world is experiencing.
  3. (NO); mystical experiences are (NOT) "the same" as religious experiences !
