tarot readers: why is it bad to become too dependent on tarot cards?
i have been reading cards for years and i turn to the cards for advice, insight into situations, and for help in making major decisions....it has served me well, thus far. however, some tarot readers warn that i sound as if i am becoming too dependent on the cards. what is the harm in that? since learning to read tarot cards, i have become more at peace with myself and much more confident in my decisions! before i was too dependent on my friends to give me advice..now i can rely on my subconscious. do the cards start lying to you, after awhile? if you give yourself too many readings, will you eventually lose the ability to read for youself? how do you know when you are too dependent on the cards, anyway? this question is for tarot readers. i dont care if you think tarot is a con or evil..keep your damn opinions to yourself ;) lol, i was just trying to be funny when i said "keep your damn opinions to yourself." you can preach all you want about how evil or how fraudulent they are but its not like ill take you seriously ;)

- Did you ever see that Twilight Zone where the people started using the fortuneteller machine at their table at the diner? Pretty soon, they couldn't do anything at all without consulting the fortuneteller (it was a coin-operated machine.) Don't wind up in the Twilight Zone, is all I'm saying.
- Tarot is a big con game
- i think you should also go with your natural instincts on things, if you do tarot youre probably a natural anyways. can you give me a quickie reading? email me! ♥
- Dear the cards are guides only. The intuition comes from within. Your cards are only a tool. That's like saying the carpenter relies too much on his hammer.
- Becoming too dependent on ANYTHING is a bad idea. You may begin to loose sight of the reason you began tarot reading in the first place, corrupting the entire process. It's not the cards will begin to deceive you, it's that you'll begin to deceive yourself...
- There is a thing called self fulfilling prophecy. If you assume that the information that you receive from the cards is correct then you will subconsciously create the situation. In some cases you may cause yourself unnecessary discomfort for no reason other then "it's what the cards said". You are too dependent on them when you feel that you can't make a logical decision without them.
- Because Tarot can be a tool. But it is not meant to replace common sense. You have a mind, it is important that you use it. Problem solving in a very important skill. It is important that you develop that skill for yourself and not relay on other means.
- It can be bad to become too dependent on Tarot cards. Its wonderful though that your ability has helped you gain self-confidence and inner peace. It's not that the cards start to lie, or that you lose the ability to read them, but it is bad to use them for every small decision that comes your way, which is how you know when you have become too dependent. Tarot is meant to be a supplement to life, a tool to help gain insight into a situation or to help communicate to with your sub-conscious. It is not meant to be for everything. You need to be able to make decisions without using the cards every time, to be able to examine your values and think for yourself.
- friends and family see right through all the lies we tell ourselves. best example is that we often fall in love with someone who's horribly wrong for us but we never see it. our friends know it's a waste of time and might tell us to just move on but we often don't listen to them...we're too busy analyzing ourselves be it with tarrot cards, prayer, dice or whatever. a healthy mix of both sounds about right to me. i want to know how other people view my life. they won't always be right, but sometimes they might open my eyes to something i just don't see. as for tarot reading, whatever. i really see no difference between it and praying to a god.
- You're too dependent on the cards when the cards are making the decisions, and not you. Tarot is best used as an adviser, or something you turn to for advice, clarity, or even maybe an idea or two, but never forget, it still should be you making the decisions, and not the cards. Also, don't be afraid to make a decision without the cards...When the cards do the deciding, when you're afraid to make a move without consulting them, when the cards are in charge, and not you...then you're too dependent on them...
- er... why is it bad to become too dependent on ANYTHING? I don't give myself readings very often- once in a blue moon is plenty. I've known friends to start laying out their cards almost everyday. That ain't healthy.
- Some good answers here. No trolls yet. We all have to be careful not to get lost in our own metaphors. Any metaphor can be a useful tool for describing the really real. But when you start confusing the metaphor for what it is you're trying to describe, that's where you get into trouble. Intuition comes from within. It's important that you use multiple ways to hone your intuition. The Tarot is like a mirror. It is only useful in how it can illuminate yourself. If you see the Tarot instead of yourself, you've gone too far and it's time to destroy the metaphor and start anew. -non psychic student of people with a developed sense of perception.
- Hello It is a negative thing to get dependant on anything. To become dependant on a means of insight can stop you from seeing outside of yourself. Do you still talk to friends/loved ones about your issues? do you still look for answers without consulting tarot? if you do I doubt that you are dependant. Sadhara
