Do you think tarot cards work?

My aunts and I used to love getting into fortune telling, runes, magick, metaphysical stuff, chakras and tarot cards when I was growing up. Does this sound a little flaky? It's really all in good fun.

  1. Yes It´s. Of course the reader needs to know about it and be a good one..
  2. Do you think tarot cards work? MA: Of course not! Don't be ridiculous.
  3. they do work. the problem arises from the fact that people think that what tarot cards say is one hundred percent set in stone when in all actuality, tarot cards and any other means of fortune telling is more like guidelines than actual rules. like, they can tell you something bad will happen, and maybe a ballpark idea of when, and a rough estimate as to what, but it cant give you specifics. like, tarot cards can predict that a family member will get hurt in fall, via some form of illness, but it cant predict that "aunt betty will fall ill with the flu on november 28th" like, they are good for rough estimates and guidelines of what to expect when, but as for a solid down to the date prediction, they cant do that.
  4. I love my cards!! I read for myself if I need guidance or direction. I also read for others because if you don't use it you lose it!! I tend to be quite accurate but I mostly do it because I love the feeling of connection! I don't think it's flaky at all! It's good to have an open mind. xxx xx x
  5. I do tarot cards everyday, they don't tell you future, they are guidance and telling opportunities.
  6. Paranormal ability that anyone can buy. Massed produced cardboard and ink that can predict the future, that anyone can buy. So why doesn't everybody buy them? The Magic 8-Ball does the job for me.
  7. Well, tarot cards are nothing special, they are, in fact, playing cards. They were created in the mid 15th century by adding an extra suit of picture cards to the then standard pack of playing cards. These extra cards took a their theme, not an occult philosophy, but a Christian triumph procession. Hence their original name was trionfi, meaning triumphs, and from which we get our word trump - it was the invention of tarot that marked the invention of trumps in card games. And this was their intended use - card games - they were used for nothing else for 350 years, at one point becoming the most popular form of card game throughout continental Europe where the games are still played. With this in mind, fortune telling with tarot cards is no different in kind from fortune telling with tea leaves, dominoes, knuckle bones or even happy families - which have all been used for this (yes, even happy families!). A fortune teller will lay out the cards in a pattern on the table, this pattern is called a spread. The card's positions are not determined by the future but by chance when you shuffle the cards but the fortune teller assigns such general meanings to the cards that he/she can read virtually any 'story' into a spread. Some fortune tellers make this story general enough that much of it will fit almost anyone who comes through their door, others will use what is called Cold Reading, a method of getting you to unwittingly give away information about yourself that they feed back to you in thier reading, making them sound very accurate. Keep in mind also, that knowledge of the future also runs into logical objections, running into many of the same problems and paradoxes that plague belief in time-travel - so much so that many of us simply cannot accept that it is even possible. So long as you don't take it seriously and treat it as an entertainment only, then there is nothing wrong with fortune telling. However, the future is what you make it. I do also suggest that you take a look at the games of tarot if the cards still interest you - those of us who play them find that they work just fine for this and are the best card games in the world!
  8. One of my buddies has studied tarot cards and uses them like this: He deals the cards. He interprets their meaning. He doesn't actually believe them, but he does use the answers as meditation points. The idea is to attempt to apply whatever random ideas come out to either his own life or that of those he knows. Sometimes these meditations come up with interesting conclusions. He's under no illusions where the real information comes from. Another of my buddies uses astrology as the basis for counseling. For example, when Saturn comes around to where it was when you were born, you're about 30. Add some noise to that and you can get 40. So these are events you can use to talk about a mid life crisis, or other sorts of things that happen to everyone at that age. And, he never has to talk about your age. He's written a book on the topic. Unfortunately, i think he believes it. Well, sometimes you have to lie to people to get them to understand what it is that they have to do. And if he believes it, then perhaps he's convincing. When all is said and done, the placebo effect is pretty powerful. You have to believe in it for it to work. And that's why light blue colored placebo is more effective. It's why if you're told that it's very expensive placebo, it's more effective. So, i want the very expensive double strength light blue placebo, please.
