A Divination Question, Specifically Tarot?
I have a problem that I was hoping you could help me with. I Love my Tarot cards, and I love giving readings, but I don't believe that our futures are set in stone, I believe that everyone has a starting point and a destination, but the roads we take to get there are of our own choice, I believe strongly in free will. I know that divination is meant to show you a glimpse into what the future might be if you make the right choices, but I am still having some problems with getting over the "The Future hasn't been written" thing.

- To me, that's the difference between destiny and fate. I feel our destiny is unavoidable and is our final destination. However, I think fate is the smaller things, which can happen, but can also be circumvented.
- The other problem you have is that no form of future divination has ever been demonstrated more effective than some person randomly guessing...
- Just live...Stop looking to cards and other monkey-ism's for help go outside in the real world and do some good or do some bad whichever you decide just live....Let some girl play with your tarot in between some bed sheets cause you seem to be tight...Release Release that's what the cards told me to tell you the cards of life
- changed your avatar bobby, cool pic i did love the wolf tho the way i see it is, its NOT set, its an option, if you dont go out to get tha tjob, even if the cards said youd get it, if you dont go, you dont get it so, simply, not set its a choice, its an option its telling you , yes if you want that and go for that, thats what is going to happen, IF it goes this way, but it can also go that way, or the other way too it hasnt been written, its showing you what could be written if you wanted to know, you are asking what if questions, not what IS i think thats how tarot works life isnt as simple as yes or no or that will happen and that wont happen its just thats how it COULD go, thats what COULD happen so i think you are pretty spot on with your original thoughts, the roads ARE of our own choices but if we chose that road, thats how it could go, but not necessarily how it WILL go additional also remember that tarot, is based on YOUR own energy, and whatever other energy there is in our life (ie nature, fate etc) so its your own mind and life and thoughts, so these answers do come from you, and this other energy so if your mind is set subconsciously, then you set it, not the cards, not fate
- I believe the same way - our future is not set in stone. I am also an avid tarot reader and I have always viewed a Tarot reading about the future as an, "if you continue on this course, this is the most likely outcome". I then usually get questions on what to do to avoid or ensure the outcome and, depending on the spread, may have to draw more cards.
- The Tarot tells us what our own psyche already knows, and that of likelihoods, not of predestination. It helps us interpret the scenarios of the future through the chaos of the present.
- i don't believe that divination is about telling the future, and i avoid using the tarot to tell the future. what i use it for is to divine messages from the gods. the cards show me things i might not be aware of or things i need to pay more attention to, not what's going to happen in the future. the present is the winding together of many millions of strands of possibility. to be able to tell the future, you would have to see all of those strands and know which possibilities are most likely, and in which combinations. i don't think the universe itself is capable of that. immediate future can be guessed from current trends, and the cards can help with that, but long mid- to long range future can only be vaguely guessed; and it is always a guess, no matter how good you might think you are at it. it gets back to the old debate on the nature of time. some say time is a dimension that higher entities can travel as easily as measuring a rod, others say time is fluid and all times exist simultaneously. i say time is an illusion of our perceptions and a mathematical function for determining duration, and nothing more. the cards are limited by the laws of the universe, and one of those laws is that the future is unknowable.
- We long to be able to determine our future, and to a small extent, we all can. However, what we can't overcome is the behavior of others, and the unforseen accident, happenstance, mis-step and the like. Tarot is fun - do it for your friends for entertainment purposes, but admit that's all it is - entertainment.
- I agree with you and my own work with use of divination and Tarot cards bears this out. A diviner generally can intuit past and present influences about a person and because of these things, can appear to be convincing to a querent. If the diviner is right-on about the querents past and present he can successfully make predictions about potential future circumstances namely because one's habits and behaviors are set and predictable and one's past and present actions have a certain predictable momentum. Any paradigmatic change in present behavior or thought constructs, however, can modify future circumstances. A good diviner will understand this and will perform a reading and assist the querent in relation to this. The flaw with many diviners is that they have not examined this idea in themselves and in general, and they get presumptuous in their readings, making statements that may initially mesmerize or satify the querent but that often turn out to be false regarding future events and sometimes taint future events through the influence of self-fulfulling prophesy.
