Psychics... what is your opinion?

I went to see a famous psychic this morning with some friends. Let me give you a pot history of my experiences with psychics and fortune tellers up to today. fortune teller 1: tarot cards. She said that I would fall in love with a man, get pregnant, marry him, then divorce him. All within 18 months. That was 15 years ago. Never happened! Fortune teller 2: palm reading. Pure cold reading. she failed miserably as I can keep a poker face along with the best of them. Very easy if you don't understand what they are saying anyway. (I'm deaf) Can't remember what she said, but it was claptrap, as nothing happened. Psychic one: Edinburgh. the minute I entered the room with my friend, I had to get out. The heat in the room was overwhelming, yet my friend told me it was normal temperature. For whatever reason, I just could NOT stay in that room. Psychic two: London. Psychic refused to see me. Psychic three: This morning, Dublin. Psychic would not deal with me after finding he could not read me, and would not accept a second person in the room to write what he would have to say, and he also refused to write for me. He couldn't read my friend either and more or less told her to get out. (No, my friend isn't deaf) He claimed that having a second person in the room interferes with the energies. I pretended to be a psychic at a women's group gathering recently and scared everyone with how scarily accurate I was, especially with people I barely knew. I merely dabbled in COLD READING. Cold reading? http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=cold+reading I believe that there ARE some psychics who have the talent and all that, but you have to be careful who you go to, that's all. What are your opinions?

  1. Wait, you know about cold reading, and you still think there are real psychics?
  2. They are fake
  3. All psychics are frauds.
  4. You got it. That's how it works. Except that there are no real psychics. If they were real they would have won the lottery.
  5. As you've already discovered, psychics are good at vague statements, hunting for information, and usually have a knack for observation. Your not going to find anything supernatural because its all tricks to separate you from your money.
  6. Very interesting. I' also believe there are some people with special abilities. Perhaps it's simply their ability to use their brains more efficiently than most of us. Or they may truly be endowed with special powers. Who knows? However, I too have experienced mixed reactions from "readers". Most were sincere, I believe, but just didn't have any special powers. They assumed that whatever they thought about me was "true". Entertaining but wasted time. I also have experienced some outright frauds who tried to shake me down by revealing important information that required future readings to allow me to react to the information correctly. Although also a waste of time, I found them entertaining and enjoyed playing their game. (Each time Madam X told me something totally wrong, I agreed with her, which sent her in the wrong direction over and over. Finally, the chrystal ball fogged over and required a subsequent and more expensive reading.) Ah, fun and games, fun and games. But I still believe.
  7. I've been to two psychics who have convinced me of the ability. I tested them. Wore a wedding ring although I'm not married, gave nothing away, kept as straight face and wrote notes as they spoke so I didn't give anything away in body language. I've also been to some bad psychics who either couldn't predict, gave me vague info that could've applied to anyone, or tried to get information out of me. The trick is to only go to recommended psychics, and stay away from psychic phone lines. There are probably more fakes out there than genuine ones. But if you don't believe then I'm sure no-one cares. I don't give a toss about people who don't believe as they're entitled to their opinions. Their life, their path, their lessons.
  8. lol..... I went to a clairvoyant-medium on Monday night and what a showman he was..lol.. I want to believe and hope that there is some thing more and I will probably keep wasting my money on conmen and tricksters looking for answers. Ive have been told 3 times that they couldnt read me and tarot has been quick, unexplained or have refused to continue. I have lead so called gifted folk to talk a load of crap believing it to be conected to myself and have sat in open forums in hope of a message. I was actually told when I was about 17 that my father would die before I was 25! Im 34 and he's still very much here. I was told I would have two children and also I had a 12yr old boy! which I denied only to be called a liar and if he wasnt here he was in spirit!! I was told we would buy a £360'000 property abroad, we cant even afford to buy a house! and loads more crap. The only experience I have had and cannot explain is with an ouija board. Apparently a spirit came through claming to be my granddad..and the person I was doing it with new nothing of that side of my family and the conections the ouija board was spelling out. I am still unsure and will never do an ouija board again. I have this evening contacted a Spiritual Church in hope of attending a few meetings..to basically see ' whats it all about? ' I hope you find what Im looking for and good luck. Take care..xx
  9. What stands out is how vehemently people dismiss psychics. is that the religion of the modern age - to not believe in any thing supernatural and to force this belief down people's throats just like the god squad used to do but the other way round? the rational position (also with god) would be simply to say "case not proven." neither believe nor disbelieve. why is it many people have a problem with that? uncomfortable is it? I go along with you 100%: there are a lot of charlatans and people who are pretty good natural psychologists, but there may be some people who are quite gifted and real psychics. i don't think there are many of them about, but it's rational to believe that they exist.
