  6. In my work as a counselor I use tarot as a communication device for some people. The foreword to the i-ching explains why and how, to a degree, oracles work and what they most likely work for. The explanation uses principles of quantum physics, before the term was even coined and the theory put forth. All things in the universe are connected via an invisible thread/soup/whatever so the oracle itself is connected to the inquirer/to the person making the inquiry while shuffling the deck...so therefore, according to the theory, the resulting spread/cards will be connected, beyond current explanation, to the inquirers query - and everything in their universe, both known and hidden. We do not KNOW EVERYTHING about ourselves. There are somethings we know about ourselves that others do not know, some things we know about ourselves and others know, and somethings that others know about us that we dont know, and then somethings about ourselves that we do not know and others do not know...so there is both known and hidden knowledge of ourselves. Tarot and the universe do not discern whether or not we know something, it just is, whether we or others know it or not...so it will be expressed in the cards when a tarot spread is cast. Tarot then can be used as a valuable and helpful counseling tool because the deck has a card to represent every human encounter, situation, emotion and archetype. Further, the layout, or tarot 'spread', used provides a context for interpreting those events by providing a meaning that exists in the universe because it has been constructed to have that meaning. Tarot is useful because it can be used as a non-threatening framework to discuss issues with psychological services clients. For some people, who might say be blind to their own responsibilities and inputs into their issues and therefore unable to perceive their situation clearly or even face up to what needs to be understood - then the tarot offers a counseling tool. It is a way of dissociating from the personal and being able to freely discus hidden and/or emotionally painful or threatening issues. Liz Green, a psychotherapist, uses tarot extensively in her practice and has devised, with a colleague, one of the best tarot decks Ive come across...The Mythic Tarot. It is worth a look at as it is very easy to learn and use...it uses Greek mythologies, which represent all human events and archetypes...exactly what the tarot itself represents so they fit together perfectly. I personally find that teenagers, often closed, or cognitively and/or emotionally unable, to perceive personal inputs into issues troubling them, can work well with the tarot as a means to examine events and their own thinking and behaviour to enable them to change themselves. so I undertook 'llewellyn's web tarot' and found it freakily accurate. As I understand it, tarot is a tool to express what is in my universe, known and hidden, through cards that represent all human events, emotions and archetypes so I have an idea how it came to be so accurate <;8( }~~~~
