Mystical Angels

Atheists, you humor a believer say a prayer and it works 100% of the time. Would you keep doing it if it workd?

DISCLAIMER: I'm NOT a Christian! Pls answer all 3. Thanks! So humor me and hypothetical situation: say someone gives you a prayer, or magickal incantation, or spiritual treatment or affirmation and every time you say it, it works: the light turns green, you get the parking spot, you don't catch the flu, your burns heal instantly, the cute person asks you out, you get unexpected cash etc . etc (work with me here it's hypothetical. you never asked a dead raised, but what the heck that too: you get a zombie back from the dead) MY 3 QUESTIONS: 1-In your mind, what would you tell yourself it was? Coincidence or_____? 2-And (even if you think it's unparallelled coincidences) would you keep doing it, as in "WTF" since it's working and you like the newfound power and want more good "stuff"? Or would you feel it contrary to your atheistic convictions and cut it out? 3-Finally MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION: if the wording was tied to a particular faith and involved "in the name of Jumanji" would you switch that to "in the name of Attila" just to see if worked with any other denomination/faith? Just curious.

  1. 1. Coincidence. 2. Yes, I'd keep doing something that was producing a benefit to me, even if I don't understand the causal connection. 3. I'll try anything once.
  2. 1.) I wouldn't tell myself anything. I'd start looking for potential causal correlations. 2.) I'd test it until I was convinced it was true, then cease until I found the causal correlations. For all I know, the good being done me could be counter by something unpleasant to others. 3.) That'd be the first thing I'd try since it would be part of seeking causal correlation.
  3. The power of prayer, spells, mind over matter, positive thinking, etc does work. The success rate depends on your ability to focus your intent. Practicing Shaman... quantum physics rocks.
  4. Eric the Walrus would be very upset if I started saying prayers, besides if prayers worked why is the world still screwed up...
  5. u have too much time on ur hands thx fo the points
  6. 1 - There is no such thing as "coincidence". It was my Destiny. 2 - IF it worked, I'd go for it. But, I'd pray for unlimited finances and Power. 3 - No. IF it works, don't fix it. "F" it. I'm a Demon Lord, but I AM honest.
  7. 1. I'm magic and/or have super powers. The prayer is just the way I focus my awesome power. 2. I'd keep using my magic for personal gain. 3. I'd give all kinds of junk a shot.
  8. Sorry, but your question made me laugh. "Sex Panther, by Odeon...60% of the time it works every time"
  9. 1. Coincidence. (Which was already disproven to me, it doesn't work 100% of the time) 2. I'd humor them more and do it again, sure. Of course it isn't going to happen 3. Why not. The problem with prayer is that often people blur the results... You pray to win the lottery. 99.99999% of the time, you are going to not win, you justify this by saying God is punishing me for being selfish. When suddenly you win, you say it is God's blessing. No matter the result, you are going to conclude God did it based on that logic, so using that to test it is irrelevant, and in fact makes a prayer asking for anything irrelevant in itself. Even if most of the time a prayer was successful. It being not all of the time would further invalidate the reasons. This is what is called confirmation bias, which is part of the reason we all have superstitions. You happen to break a mirror, or a black cat crosses your path, or step under a ladder, you note that event in your mind-- inevitably something negative will happen at some point after that. You may immediately attribute that to the notable event that happened before. I don't say prayer cannot work. When someone is asking for something personal they are already capable of... praying for God to give them strength, for example. They can mentally feel they are capable, and can overcome fears or doubt in that way. Either way, any prayer never invokes a supernatural power to change the chance of everything, but if you do believe in it enough, it might just work for you... after all... if it works for you, why would you care how it works.
  10. okay, here are my three answers. 1. it worked out more than once, i would say they are connected. 2. if it was a prayer to a certain diety, i would first question if it was the deity or the prayer that made it happen. 3. no immediatly but if it proved that the deity and not the prayer was indeed the cause theni would almost have no choice. now, this will not happen. the best pray-ers and spell casters and wizards and monks never say that what they do works with %100 accuarcy. secondly, i would need to study this to find a casual connection to the deity or force being prayed to. neither of which are likley.
  11. I am a Christian and have to say that this is one of the coolest questions I've seen! No answer, as it does not apply to me. I just wanted to compliment you on the question.
  12. Of course I'd keep doing it.... Thoughts become things, choose the good ones! This has nothing to do with God or Religion. I't all about the Law of Attraction: Like attracts like. It's your dominant thoughts that make things happen. Sure you could call it Jumanji... to each his own
