Mystical Angels

If you have free will, how come a good fortune teller can look at your face and know exactly what you think?

  1. they are trained to read your body language there are probibly classes and i know that there are books on body language.
  2. They can't really read your mind. Look up cold reading and hot reading. These are skills that can be learned.
  3. spirit tells them.
  4. Psychics can tell what you think by strong impressions they get when pondering you or scanning you. It is also possible to read minds with telepathy. A true psychic trained in telepathy has the ability to go inside your head and find any kind of information that they want. Your mind is like an open book for any entity trained in this ability to read. That is why it is important to always shield your mind. Though let it be said, that entering anyones mind without their permission is not ethical at all and should NEVER be done without the persons permission.
  5. Just like prophecy, a fortune teller tells you what is destined to happen but doesn't tell you how it is accomplished. With great movement this can change, but the seer says what is almost certain. Free will is still present because no one can exactly tell you your next move by reading the future, at least not anyone I know of. As for those who know exactly what you think, it's a combination of intelligence skills or mental aptitude. Not fortune telling, comprehend this. If the fortune teller sees that you may have a breakup soon, he/she can assume that you have worries about your current relationship.
  6. The notion of "free will" does not come into this at all. Any person can "read" a LOT of information about you from your body positions (the way you walk, sit, gesture etc) or from your facial expressions (the way you move your eyebrows or eyes, muscle twitches etc). One would imagine that a "good fortune teller" would ensure that he/she knew all the tricks of the trade to interpret as much about you as possible from the moment you walk into his/her space.
  7. sunshine is exactly right. This is known as the power of suggestion. It does not use your thoughts, but it is merely a very clever and powerful use of logic and observation to reach a conclusion. A really basic example, I could look at your hand, and if I saw a wedding ring, I could conclude that you're married. If I saw you only clipped the fingernails on one of your hands, I'd tell you you played guitar, and I could tell you if you were right or left handed. Fortune tellers have fully mastered this art to uncanny degrees. The power of suggestion being used in a more relevent way would be, if your eyes were red, I could conclude you'd been crying. Crying=sad, so you're sad about something. If you also has a little congestion in your nose, I could assume your were crying very recently. Then throw in, say, a dog hair clung to your shirt, and now I know that most likely your dog died.
