Why does Zeppelin´s music sound very unusual, hidden & mystical?

1. They were into mystical stuff. They sang quite a lot about Lord of the Rings too - and they mixed blues with folk - Zep 3 is nearly all folk type stuff. Then there's the fascination they had with Crowley.
2. basic 3 chord rock with 4/4 time. maybe john jones's overdubs got you.
3. Back in the day we were all high, and so were they so, it was the weed affect. LOL!
4. Probably because a lot of the early stuff was recorded on twin track tape and the band, sound engineer and producer had to work that bit harder. (btw Mel, didn't know that JP Jones played for Status Quo).

6. the reason that led zepplin sounds so mystical is because they combined blues, rock and english folk sounds to come up with their own sound. they tend to tell stories or at least set up vignettes with their songs, so if you think about them that way, they aren't really hidden or mystical at all. the reason they sound mystical is because at the time they were writing most of their songs, the new age movement was in its infancy and eastern thought was in Vogue. also, they would often use unusual beats (anyone who thinks its all 4/4 stomp listen to the rain song) use modes (different scale and chord patterns) and write using old folk melodies they probably learned in the environment where they grew up. same as anywhere, there are songs that are just in your blood, even if you don't listen to it.
