Why are so many acting as if Arlen Specter has underwent a mystical transmogrification to a liberal socialist?

He's the same moderate he always has been. Votes in the Senate will go the same as they always did. He only changed the letter after his name because extremists in the conservative media were running campaigns to get him out of office due to his vote on the stimulus. undergone. Sorry. 1. Heck he said it himself. he wants to have a chance to be reelected lol he doesn't care about party he only cares about his own ccareer he is a loser ,,, let The democrats have him I am sure that ttheRepublicans don't mind. I know I wouldn't.
2. Moderate is not the correct term to describe Specter, "Hard Left" would be a better description, he has been pretty much party line Democrat voter for as long as I can remember. No way he was going to win the Republican Primary in PA, he is just making his membership in the Democrat Party official.

6. Arlen Spector has been a moderate Republican as long as I can remember, and very liberal socially on issues such as abortion. There is no sudden shift in how we see him just because he switched parties as you're suggesting. If Specter was a conservative, then you might have a point, but since he's not, you're just another blind liberal squirrel trying to find a nut. A wise conservative employer I use to work for use to say to me " When there is trouble going on in any given situation, rats and cowards are the first to jump ship, while the heroes or men of character stay behind to deal with the situation" I believe that applies here. Specter was a left leaning Republican anyways, he was no loss at all to our party. We need a few more like him to take a hike, like the three who voted for Obama's stimulus for example, Arnold Schwarzenegger and John McCain would also do us some good in leaving . Both of them are nothing more then liberal Democrats with a Republican name tags anyways. God bless.

He is still a moderate, and once Olympia Snow follows, there will be NO moderate Republicans left in the Senate, and Republicans will have what they want, a party of right wing ideologues and lovers of greed and god, and the Democrats will have what they want, the big tent party that's a strong majority. I don't know what other Rockefeller Republicans can do but come to the Democratic Party and have their voices heard, because dissent is forbidden on the reicht.
