Does Gold have some mystical purpose, and not just look pretty?

I saw on TV that it is in many elecrtrical devices because electricity runs through it and it doesn't corrode. I even heard of ingesting it, for health purposes. But what health purposes? They said on TV the Mayans drilled holes in their heads and put gold in it, for good health? HUH? I know crystals trap radio waves and such, but what can Gold do?

1. In medieval times, gold was often seen as beneficial for the health, in the belief that something that rare and beautiful could not be anything but healthy. Even some modern esotericists and forms of alternative medicine assign metallic gold a healing power. Some gold salts do have anti-inflammatory properties and are used as pharmaceuticals in the treatment of arthritis and other similar conditions. However, only salts and radioisotopes of gold are of pharmacological value, as elemental (metallic) gold is inert to all chemicals it encounters inside the body.
2. gold just looks pretty. and just because something looks pretty and has some uses does not mean that it is not harmful. look at mercury; a beautiful liquid metal but it is highly toxic. and throughout the ages people have thought it led to immortality. superstition is rarely ever right. if you want something that will give you good health then take H2O2 capsules. they can be bought on the internet and do work and is backed by science.
3. gold salts has value as medicine for arthritis but ingesting it does not, except it might make your poop shiney.

I have also heard about this, they used to inculde gold in these multi-vitamins (maximol) from a company called Neways which has some of the best vitamins on the market but they don't do that anymore. just as the body contains iron, it also has traces of gold, but I don't know the exact facts.
