Mystical Angels

I know that Catholics are not suppose to believe in horoscopes but what if?

i know that Catholics are not suppose to believe in horoscopes but what if we take them as advice? Is it still wrong? And why?

  1. Why not? Jesus was tracked down by 3 wise men (from china?0 who were guided by the stars and who's astrology readings led them to the new king of the world!
  2. I was about to quote about Jesus being visited by the three wise men guided by the conjunction of Venus and Jupiter... That conjunction itself really narrows down his birth date:-) Astrology is not against any Faith or religion... Religion is not Faith... And Spirituality is not religious... What you believe about Divinity does not affect what happens to you astrologically. What you do (choices, deeds) are affected by your Tendencies, and what you unleash is you Pandora's box of Potentials... If Astrology can outline for you your potentials and your tendencies... talents and intuitions ... isn't that a good thing? Wrong or right it's still your own choice to believe it or not... isn't it? It's kind of a fact that Catholics choose their lucky days consulting the stars... and using Eclipses as portends of something great or destructive... They have the longest living tale of Climate changes and effects due to astronomical events... And if you research long enough, you'll realize that Astronomy the Science is a spin off of Astrology the Philosophy... Incidentally... you're probably going to buzz knowing that there's a Total Solar Eclipse over Southeast Asia on Wednesday... July 22nd 2009... http://kirinouji.wordpress.com/a-solar-eclipse-2009/ I won't tell you what to believe... Choose the conviction that proves itself true for you and stick with it... If it's Catholicism then great... if it's astrology then fantastic... One does not have to dominate the other... Your life and Destiny are yours to write, it is not owned by religion or astrology... Besides... you're already hooked on astrology... don't you think it's a bit late to feel guilty about it??? hahahahah Take it easy... Doom and Gloom is not you really is it? Believe what is true for you and be happy that you're finding truth for yourself... instead of having it poured into your skull... Best regards... ;-)
  3. It's your life, believe in whatever you want. Astrology, in my opinion, is more interesting than studying a 1500 year old book. Anyway, did you know the 12 disciples represent each of the 12 zodiac signs? Did you know that Mary, Jesus' mom, was a virgin and she was a Virgo, the sign of the virgin?
  4. I wouldn't take them as advice based on any astrological insight. If you want to take advice that's fine, but then take advice from every Zodiac sign and not just the one you're assigned. Using the stars to learn about God, and his plan for salvation is one thing. Using the stars to predict the future, and guide you in worldly endeavors is another. We should not try to learn, predict or guide our future based on horoscopes, we should turn to God, trust in him, and seek to do his will.
  5. The Catholic Church has a long love-hate relationship with astrology. It was condemned at least as far back as St Augustine of Hippo (354-430), yet subsequent popes used astrologers. St Thomas Aquinas [1224(?) - 1275 (?)] condemned natal astrology as denying free will as did Augustine. From the Church's viewpoint, denying free will is saying the idea of salvation is a cruel hoax. But Aquinas was less harsh on mundane astrology and astrometerolgy claiming they were useful to understand God's plan. John Paul II issued a condemnation of a bunch of "new age" stuff including astrology, but again the grounds were based on the use of these things in lieu of prayer and worship. The problem is that many astrologers do not believe that astrology denies free will, and if that is the case, they could adopt Aquinas' position and deem it to be within Church dogma. The problem of free will is not all that easy to grasp. Most people don't fully understand it and confuse it with free whim. Astrologers aren't guiltless in this either, as they all claim astrology is not deterministic, but then they go out act as if it is. It's a balancing act. That astrologers (and the Gospel does not give a number only the plural), and they were astrologers, are said to have visited the scene at the Nativity, has absolutely nothing to do with anything. It is a nice metaphor that combines what the original author probably saw as paganism's acknowledgment of the Divinity of Christ and His universal message. The word "catholic" means "universal." It has nothing to do with the validity or lack of validity of astrology. If you believe that astrology is deterministic, in which case "advice" is superfluous, then your belief is at odds with Catholic teaching. If you believe that astrology supersedes Christ's teachings, then your belief is at odds with Catholic teaching. But if you believe astrology is a means, and not the only means, of helping us to understand God's plan, then you're on stronger ground, but a theologian still might not be persuaded. Give it some thought; in other words, use your free will.
  6. I don't recall ever reading the 11th commandment 'Thou shalt not read thy horoscopes' I was raised catholic and had to go to church regularly, I've never heard we were not supposed to believe in horoscopes, in fact I read mine often! BTW your question gave me the best laugh I've had all day...
  7. I've never been able to bring the two together in a perfect way. The bible specifically states to not reference the stars. I can only believe that we have to take life as it comes. Find out what works and what does not. I have not found that studying astrology has made me less moral, or less dedicated to doing the right thing in all circumstances. I rely on it to let me know when I might be in danger of going off path. Not to determine my path; and there is a big difference. Ephesians 2:8 "For by grace are you saved through faith; and not that of yourselves: it is the gift of God." I only hope my mind can be read, which I am sure it is.
  8. I'm not Catholic but you could confess your astrology sins and then they would be blessed, right? :)
  9. Yes because it is vain to believe that any human would be able to foretell the future the future is in Gods hands, all there is needed then is to trust in him. It is the height of vanity to think that you can know with certainty what God has planned for you and even worse to think as some do that it would be best to try and change it. Trust in God
  10. Actually, you should know that Astrology never lies, it just likes any language, does have to be learned in order to be used. Just read this article to know more: So you should be read more and more to understand them and use them for every case. If it isn't right with you, that isn't mean it isn't right with other people!
