Within your religion, what reasons are there for you to ignore/separate yourself from certain people?

I keep hearing about how people who use tarot cards etc are evil and should be shunned by all Christians; what else is there? For Chistians and other religious groups? I hear not being Christian is also a reson why a Christian can't marry you; what is your opinion of this?

  1. Tarort card readers get their power from somewhere, and it's not God. Therefore, it has to be from the other sorce. The devil. It's witchcraft and we shouldn't be messing around with that stuff. Getting married to someone who is not a Christian could cause a lot of conflict in a marriage. Which could lead to a divorce. That would be a sin. Also, it's easier for a Christian to get pulled down by a non-Christain, than it is for a non-Christian to get pulled up by the Christian.
  2. I am bringing the teachings to the world that separation and the act and thought of separating is what is destroying humanity. We are all divine with the love of God. I do not judge or condemn. Ours is to but love, unconditionally. Much of Christianity does not openly profess such things but the actions of the church leadership does. The saying, "Tis better to be like Christ than to be like a Christian" reverberates greatly in today's times. But this can also be said of any such religion, faith or philosophy. Ego is the root cause of all separation because it is ONLY ego that sees itself as separate and different from others. Blessings
  3. tarot card readers get their power from nature and the universe if god made those, its always from god is it not? and christianity decided all paganesqe tradiotons were now to be branded evil, so hence they are ignored and seperated despise the fact that chrisianty is base don paganism, along with many others
  4. For me, a Chaote... of sorts (if I have to put a label on it), tarot cards are pieces of paper with drawings on them. Now I'm not exactly a skeptic, I've been reading Tarot cards for almost 8 years now and of course what comes up in the readings can, and most times does happen in real life but I'm not so naive to believe that the magic that's happening has anything to do with a pack of mass produced cardboard slabs. You can buy tarot cards in almost every bookshop. Are unknowable magical forces really so prevalent in our world that every pack of tarot cards produced is somehow a gateway to a world of demons and omens? When you're reading tarot cards, or tea leaves (is all tea picked magic too?) or regular playing cards, or rune stones is the diviner somehow bridging realities and asking the permission of dark forces to scry the future and relay the information back by guiding in the selection of certain objects with a preset symbolism or meaning? No. It's psychology. Powerful yes, magical no, at least in a literal sense. Try it yourself. Take three playing cards off the top of a deck, lay them face down and side to side and reveal each one by one. Without any knowledge of numerology or cartomancy, use whatever memories or ideas you can bring to the surface to attach a meaning to each card that is revealed. Maybe you think 3's are lucky, so that's a good card. Hearts might symbolize love to you, so the 2 of hearts might immediately bring thoughts of relationships. You might think the Clubs suit seems slightly ominous and that the black cards are more negative than the red cards. You could do the same with a bag of smarties if you wanted to. These aren't spirits you're conversing with, they're your own thoughts and ideas. Tarot works the same way to a certain extent, only a tarot card reader will of course be swayed by the accepted meaning of each card to a certain extent. There are lots of them, most of them are vague enough to come true no matter what (you will possibly find yourself in a tough financial situation at some stage, but you will be able to recover if you work hard and never give up hope... etc etc) and they're packed with enough pagan (and Christian) symbolism to keep the active minds of most superstitious people working overtime. A good tarot card reading is the skillful marraige of two peoples (the reader and the querant) conscious and subconscious hopes, fears and beliefs. Do it right and it can be a life changing experience for both partipiants, in the same way as a session on a wholly non-magical psychologists chair can be. As for religious bans on intermarrying, it depends on where in the world you are. Christianity is a diverse religion, there are many different branches of the faith and even within those branches, geopolitical factors and local tradition will often result in regional differences in the way a faith is celebrated. If the hardliners want to keep it in the faith, more power to them. From a purely selfish point of view, if the worst came to the worst and I fell head over heels in love with a hard-line Baptist girl, my own belief structure is flexible enough to allow me to fake conversion for the sake of our happiness :) Christianity isn't the only religion that has this practice however, pretty much all the main stream religions do. It makes sense, intermarrying will only bring outside influences which, although good for the longterm health of a religion, are bad for its overall integrity.
