3. There are two areas of use for tarot cards. There more recent use, for reading/fortune telling, began a little over 200 years ago - though only spread beyond France during the 20th century. You can find a lot of information about this at: http://www.aeclectic.net The other area of use dates back more that 550 years and that is the games for which they were invented. These games are still played throughout much of continental Europe. For the most part they employ French suited cards, though the old Italian designs are still used for play in Italy, Sicily, and Switzerland. You can find all about the cards and the rules for 25 of the games here: http://www.tarocchino.com If you're going to get into tarot cards, you might as well go for the complete package. I've been surprised just how many readers have shown an interest in the games.
