Does everyone with spiritual gifts speak in tounges?
Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? (1Corinthians 12:30) I interpret 1 Corinthians 13:8 to mean that tounges and prophecy will cease when we are in heaven, but I can't say that I speak in tounges, or use prayer language. I don't know of any biblical support for baptism of the Holy Spirit and the initial evidence of speaking in tounges, but I believe in all the spritual gifts for today's believers. So what is the biblical basis for initial evidence of speaking in tounges? Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. (1Corinthians 13:8)

- Even in the supermarket
- I think that's strictly a Christian thing. There are other types of spirituality, you know.
- I like the spelling in tongues(tounges). Nice touch, there.
- I don't know, but I really enjoy laughing at them when they do.
- No, just those who have deluded themselves in doing an act that is not biblical. In the bible, speaking in tongues means speaking another language that an be interpreted by another member of the congregation. If the interpretation cannot be done, the person who speaks in tongues is asked to keep his mouth closed. What we see amongst charismatics is a type of cultural phenomenon that is interesting, but far from being anything supernatural.
- No. Pentecostals believe it to be a sign of the baptism of the Spirit, which it can be, but in reality it is not an exclusive evidence. Everyone receives the Holy Spirit as a sign and seal when they repented and asked Jesus to be their Lord and Savior... and most do not begin to immediately speak in tongues. The indwelling Spirit of God can be so intense and moving that sometimes people regard this as a second event or baptism, but this too may not include tongues or a prayer language. It is not a prerequisite. There are discussions about tongues and prayer language, particularly because it can be self edifying. Most believe tongues as speaking in another know language of which the speaker does not have knowledge. This is why an interpreter, perhaps the person who the message was for or someone who knows the language, should be present and help reveal the meaning of what was said... which usually glorifies God. This is the biblical meaning of tongues. Prayer language is considered the personal "groaning of the Spirit" which should be a private affair between God and the individual. A person could be moved to the point of doing this aloud in a group or church setting, but it should not be considered something to show evidence of the indwelling Spirit or used as a self edifying "religious" demonstration. There are many wonderful and awesome gifts of the Spirit that can occur when God uses an individual who is devoted to Him. Some believe it is a permanent and ongoing gifting, which it can be if that is the Lord's will. More often it is glimpses of the glory and power of God as He uses us to show His love to others. It gives a whole new light to the vine and branches thing. We are just the earthly vessels that His love flows through. We help to support the fruit of the Spirit. If we try to hold on to it, like manna... it stagnates and dies. His love must flow and we can experience that living water... the overflowing fountain from our innermost being. You've got His word on it. What an awesome God we serve! .
- I have heard the French kiss in tongues, which sounds lke a gift.
- If by "spiritual gifts" you mean "the propensity to make gibberish noises and then claim supernatural inspiration", then, yes.
- Without the Holy Ghost there is NO Power. 1 Corinthians 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. 1 Corinthians 14:4 4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. 1 Corinthians 14:5 I would that ye all spake with tongues but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. There are two tongues here the unknow tongues doesn't speak to men. Only to God. The Second Is Prophecy and it is to be interpreted. Acts 11:15-17 15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. 16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. 17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God? No one CAN understand what is being said..it is not for us to understand it. It is prayer and speach to God. This IS THE REFRESHING. Acts 19:2-6 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. 3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
- You are incorrect to say that there is no biblical support of baptism of the Holy Spirit, Jesus said in Acts 1:5 "For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." This is then fulfilled in Chapter 2 on the day of Pentecost, (Acts 2:4) However, more importantly is that the early christians were Jewish converts, it had not been known that the Holy Spirit had been poured out to all, as the Jews saw other cultures as unclean. this issue is discussed further in chapters 10 and 11 of Acts where Peter witnesses the grace of God to the gentiles. and in this instance as in Acts 2:4. "AV Ac 10:46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,". The gentiles also speak in tongues. Now Concerning spiritual gifts, Where the bible renders (1Corinthians 12:30) "Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?" as a challenge to the body of Christ, to us believers, that we are to utilise these gifts that christ has given us.And if not, lets take hold of them. 1Corinthians 12:11 gives us a response to how we render ourselves partakes of these gift, "AV 1C 12:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will." Emphasis placed on the last bit of this scripture, that it is as we will we receive. It is the stance or many Christians that the gift of the Holy spirit is not for us today, However it is this stance that limits the power God has given us, I can not stand and say God can not given tongues to people, when Paul an apostle to Christ exhorted we speak in tongues, "1C 14:5", peter says in Acts 11:17, Then we need to think about the practical applications of speaking in tongues, this practice is solved with paul, (Reading of Acts 14 recommended) "AV 1C 14:23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in [those that are] unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?" "AV 1C 14:26 . How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. AV 1C 14:27 If any man speak in an [unknown] tongue, [let it be] by two, or at the most [by] three, and [that] by course; and let one interpret. AV 1C 14:28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God." For the most part we see and hear congregations uttering tongues with no sense of order, more surprisingly if there is not an interpreter than no one should speak in toungues. Lastly in 1Corinthians 13:8, "Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away." There can be a misconception, Where this verse says tongues will pass away it dose not infer it has ceased, oblivious logic can be checked, where weather we still have knowledge? "as for knowledge, it will pass away", we still have knowledge today, This verse says, that Christ has brought us love, The love of God "Agape" and it Never ends it is in contrast to Romans 2:7, "To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:" That word "Immortality" mean things that never pass away, Henceforth, We who seek immortality, (things that don't pass away) such as "love" we be given eternal life, which is paramount to prophecies, tongues and knowledge that will pass away. Ending note, AV Ac 11:17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as [he did] unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God? Who are we "to withstand God"?. Long Response, Feel feel to Comment, Thank you.
