Are mystical creatures real ?

- Only perhaps in a parallel universe, but unfortunately not in this reality.
- This is more a philosophical question than an Earth Science Question... That all depends on what your definition of mystical creatures is. I think there are many creatures which are mystifying. Look at Cuttlefish. They can change the coloration and texture of their skin faster than our eyes can percieve. To me, that's pretty mystical, I can't do that. But maybe you meant more mythical - which by definition means creatures from myths, which are creatures from belief rather than observation. Let's suppose you believe Decartes who says, "I think, therefore I am." Is there a correlary, "I believe in mystical creatures, therefore they exist."? But, if you disagree with Decartes, and we don't exist, then do mystical creatures exist? We could all be figments of our own imagination. Never truly existing in a physical sense, but believing we do. Decartes does not imply however that we are material, he only states that since any who think, must exist. We could also be figments of someone elses imagination allowed to run wild, and not exist at all. Is that what God is? The being who created each of us as a different part of his own thoughts? What is real? What is existence? What is a horse? What is a Unicorn? If you ask people these questions, you'll get a variety of answers. With common threads, but still different. I believe we do exist. I believe creatures exist which became exaggerated into mythical creatures, but that they do not necessarily truly exist as we believe them to be.
- Many creatures are mysterious in that there are many things we don't know about them, but none have ever any had magical or supernatural attributes that anyone could provide the slightest empirical evidence for, nor has anyone provided a logical reason to even suspect they might have.
