- Ooooh, look up ANYTHING by James Randi. He explains this stuff all the time. Look at videos of James Randi debunking Peter Popoff. Also, read Susan Blackmore, who was CONVINCED there were psychic powers. She then went on to prove it, did 4 years of scientific research, and at the end of it, changed her mind. She wrote a book about it. Check this out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Alpha And read stuff by a magician named Banachek, who also debunks any magician/cleric who claims paranormal abilities. Basically, people WANT to believe stuff. There are no supernatural abilities. The JREF has offered a million dollars to anyone who could prove, under reasonable scientific controls, any paranormal ability. Many have tried, all have failed, many have been exposed as obvious frauds. As for haunted houses, look up Joe Nickell. Many many magicians are all too happy to explain to people how other supposed "psychics" and people with self-proclaimed paranormal abilities are actually doing it. Finally, listen to the first 5 episodes of the "Skeptics Guide to the Universe" podcast. That will really open up your thinking. You will definitely be the smartest, best critical thinker in your class. You've started down the right path by asking and not just believing. Good job!!!
- Magicians use slight-of-hand, smoke and mirrors, and distraction techniques. Psychics use what's called "cold reading."
- Who said that they don't know them? So called magicians, psychics, snake oil salesmen and ministers have been using shills for centuries... it's all based on illusion... Gods had nothing to do with it. I could walk around and say I feel presences in an old home. How would you prove me wrong? Same with all these others...They prey upon the gullible... be very careful in what you take for 'reality'. None of these 'occult' occurances are valid, they are only trying to take you... There are several really good books on how they do it... do some research for yourself and decide. At 15, you still have a lot to learn and experience. Don't just accept things at face value. Including those who will say it's the work of the devil, demons or gods. An old adadge that you should learn in this life is to believe only half of what you see and none of what you hear... this is advise from a 60 year old who has been around and seen a lot of things...
- Don't be involved with the occult. It's against the Ten Commandments. IN other words..a sin.
- "psychics" are con artists - there are sites and books dedicated to it. Penn and Teller exposed a few on their cable show. And speaking of which: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYTmEVFL_NA (skip the first 90 seconds)
- Magicians are masters of Illusion. They make you think you're seeing something that you are not. The Bible mentions mediums and psychics. It says do not be involved with them - most of them are con artists, but if they have any "ability" it is not of their own - it is becuase they are being decieved and are involved in demonic activity. Stay away from these things.
- Part of it is a trick. I can find out what card you are holding by how I phrase the questions. And the state magician are based on illusion. They say the hand is quicker than the eye, and this is literally true. They all do it by special tricks, not by 'magic'. Some real psychics can tell when there is the presence of real evil or real holiness.
- No supernatural powers .It is all super tricks ! You can also do them all if you practice them with the equipments specially made for them. Certain tricks can be done only in specific settings and on stages only. The magician would not allow the spectators to examine all the equipments they use in performing certain ticks as they will be having hidden chambers / compartments and false bottoms.
- There is no such thing as magician or psychics they are all in a class of huckster known as "ILLUSION"ist. Read about Harry Houdini, one of the Wold's most famous illusionist he debunked every "psychic of his day who dared to make claims that they couldn't back up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Houdini James Randi is the Houdini of the modern age he has an international reputation as a "magician" and escape artist, but today he is best known as the world's most tireless investigator and demystifier of paranormal and pseudoscientific claims. Randi has pursued "psychic" spoonbenders, exposed the dirty tricks of faith healers, investigated homeopathic water "with a memory," and generally been a thorn in the sides of those who try to pull the wool over the public's eyes in the name of the supernatural. He has received numerous awards and recognitions, including a Fellowship from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation in 1986. On October 19, 1993, the PBS-TV "NOVA" program broadcast a one-hour special dealing with Randi's life work, particularly with his investigations of Uri Geller and various occult and healing claims being made by scientists in Russia. He is the author of numerous books, including The Truth About Uri Geller, The Faith Healers, Flim-Flam!, and An Encyclopedia of Claims, Frauds, and Hoaxes of the Occult and Supernatural. His lectures and television appearances have delighted — and vexed — audiences around the world. In 1996, the James Randi Education Foundation was established to further Randi's work. Randi's long-standing challenge to psychics now stands as a $1,000,000 prize administered by the Foundation. It remains unclaimed. http://www.randi.org/site/
- It's a trick, and sometimes it can go wrong. You know those kind of preachers that come to your church and are like "God is giving me a message that someone here has a bad back and needs prayer!" and then that person comes down and gets prayed over? Well once one of those types visited our church. He said "God is telling me someone named _____ needs prayer." But it turns out even though he chose a name common to our area, no one of that name was there that day! Everyone just looked around for a couple minutes, and finally someone said, "There's no one here by that name today." And the preacher tried to save face by saying to that person, "Well then God must have chosen you to receive their message!" It was rather sad.
- No, God did not even bless them at all. Magicians are great with mirrors, makeup and hidden compartments. Anyone who claims to Sense, the dead?? Their just one or two steps behind SATAN. And they will achieve what they desire. GOD Bless YA, Chicago Bob. (Imasinner) Please pray for our Country and Our President (DAILY) There is more Joy in JESUS in 24 hours, Than there is in the World in 365 Days. I have tried them both.(ME TO) R.A. Torrey.
