How do I read a regular deck of cards like they do with Tarot?

So I was doing some research and I was interested to learn that sometimes people can use the regular playing cards in substitute of Tarot cards :D How does somebody do this? Is there a guide or anything anybody can share? Thanks :]

  1. shuffle. have person cut cards, then turn cards over making up whatever comes to mind. You are an expert now.
  2. The suits correspond as follows: Cups - Hearts Swords - Spades Wands - Clubs Pentacles - Diamonds. The court cards correspond as named with Jack = Page. I don't include the joker, but you can include it and interpret it as the "Wyrd" in runes. You'll want to stick to smaller spreads (3-5 cards), as you're working w/o the Major Arcana. Otherwise, I find it works pretty much the same as the Tarot. (I don't use them that much, though -- I prefer my deck.) It's not quite as easy to read, since you're not working with visual cues, and it doesn't have the inherent metaphysical qualities that a Tarot deck would, so it feels like you're doing more "work" in the reading. So, yeah. Try it. See if it works for you. Blessings.
  3. 'regular cards' were preceded by the tarot: swords=spades, cups=hearts, pentacles=diamonds, and wands=clubs. understand the tarot first, then you can use regular cards to divine. check out www.tarot.com it's very instructive.
  4. You're going to be working without the major arcana, and only the 'fool' card which is the joker. If you go to google.com and type this in "tarot reading playing cards" it gets you to several how-to sites.
  5. I've heard of guides you can use, but I would just prefer to use a regular tarot deck. Much more symbolism in every picture.
