Do Jews believe in Fortune Tellers?
Their religion, as I gather from here and elsewhere, leaves so much room for free expression. What then are the beliefs regard Fortune Tellers and clairvoyants? Is it against your Judiasm or permissible?
Public Comments
- In general: no, it's not accepted. But, to each his own: sure? why not?
- The Torah states very clearly that no fortune teller, magician, necromantic, sorcerer or witch should be ever consulted. King Saul lost his authority as a King of Israel for consulting the Witch of Endor, it is mentioned in the First Book of Samuel Chapter 28:6-25
- No they do not and Cabala is not fortune telling it is a strict mystical discipline
- Against. It's even wrong to go to "Sister Sally" or whatever the local "fortune teller" is even if there is no such thing as it today.
- No, because only Navis (Prophets) can predict the future.
