Christians, how does it feel that every public intellectual with an IQ higher than 130 was an athiest/agnostic?
please I dont want everybody and their dog telling me your IQ is higher than 130, because only 2.1% of all people have an IQ higher than 130. No matter what online tests say, you are more than likely not as smart as Albert Einstein. http://www.aceviper.net/estimated_iq_of_famous_people.php I am, of course, and have always been an atheist.I have repeatedly said that in my opinion the idea of a personal God is a childlike one. During the youthful period of mankind's spiritual evolution, human fantasy created gods in man's own image. --Albert Einstein Religion is comparable to a childhood neurosis. - Sigmund Freud To call on them to give up their illusions about their condition is to call on them to give up a condition that requires illusions. -Karl Marx The day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus by the Supreme Being in the womb of a virgin, will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter. - Thomas Jefferson

- wow, I guess that proves the Bible truthful. 1 Corinthians 1:19 For it is written: “I will make the wisdom of the wise [men] perish, and the intelligence of the intellectual [men] I will shove aside.” 20 Where is the wise man? Where the scribe? Where the debater of this system of things? Did not God make the wisdom of the world foolish? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom did not get to know God, God saw good through the foolishness of what is preached to save those believing. (Romans 1:22) Although asserting they were wise, they became foolish. You know what is amazing about all the wisdom of man? Is that it has placed our very existence, our very health in danger. Without the geniuses, we would not have polluted the planet with their half thought out inventions and careless dumping of toxic wastes, and the inventions of war devices that still threaten us if they fall into the 'wrong' hands. I stand and applaud all the geniuses. Bravo, Thanks for creating all the things that are killing us. Oh BTW? Are you insinuating that you are among the 'geniuses'? If so, how is it that you have not come to understand that the poor stupid theists can not comprehend the genius with which you want to overshadow us?
- Christians are proud of their own inferiority actually. Ignorance is bliss. Self-proclaimed sheep is happy.
- Yeah I know atheists can blag all this crap about being superior, but we derive our ethics from christianity, even our own judicial system. I'm an atheist too by the way.
- Which strictly proves there is a difference between great intellect and common sense.
- the truth hurts. the bible, and other similar cult books, dumb people down. they always have, and there's no avoiding that fact.
- Actually my I.Q. is higher than 130, tested by psychologist. Of course, I'm also an atheist. Hmmm.
- IQ-143 Theist
- To understand reality is not the same as to know about outward events. It is to perceive the essential nature of things. The best-informed man is not necessarily the wisest. Indeed there is a danger that precisely in the multiplicity of his knowledge he will lose sight of what is essential. But on the other hand, knowledge of an apparently trivial detail quite often makes it possible to see into the depth of things. And so the wise man will seek to acquire the best possible knowledge about events, but always without becoming dependent upon this knowledge. To recognize the significant in the factual is wisdom.
- So...it doesn't matter is there were a lot of smart atheists or agnostics, there are a lot of intelligent Christians as well.
- All true, but it begs the question "what's so great about being intelligent?" Ignorance is bliss.
- IMMA FIGHTIN ON DA INTERNETS
- Even the ANTI-Public intellectuals... Like MYSELF.
- uhm, wow, what a stupid generalization on your part. i'm sure there are many Christians with comparably great IQs. i'm no longer Christian, but i can see the stupidity in your question. there are a couple Mensa members in my family who happen to be devout, believing Christians.
- My dear, why can't you be happy that they have their truth and you have yours?
- I dont care. It's a proven fact that IQ's are no gauge of a man's character or spiritual integrity. I'm a Christian with an IQ of 138 but that doesnt mean as much as the fact that I beleive in God. I'll say a prayer for you and your attitude.
- you missed the headline of that website......Estimated I.Q. of Famous People........ do you know what the word estimated means?? nice try, but next time find factual information
- The wordls looks at the I Q
- Do you realize how condescending you are in talking to people like that? And what the hell is a "public intellectual"? There's no such thing. Stop inventing fake terminology for people you are talking down to.
- Because Chritstains are proud of their narrow mindedness
- GOD came to the unlearnd the sick and the poor its foolish to the learned no wonder the smart are not able to understand its a stumbleing block to the learned
- Einstein believed in a God but in a different form, not what we are accustomed to. He believed in a universal form of energy. God is true but again he is not a form like man but a different entity. Most of the people with high IQ who denounces God can be a result of their arrogance. They have too much confidence in their intellect that they could not allow somebody greater than they are. As simple as that. One can believe in God without having to have a religion.
- Just proves that even higher IQ people can be really stupid.
- 84% of all statistics are made up on the spot. PS genius iq is 150 Mine is 179 I believe in God. Thanks
- So was every public intellectual with an IQ lower than 130, thus proving that the result was determined by their status as public intellectuals and not by the size of their IQs. QED.
- oh right i'm sure God actually cares how high your IQ is. and oh wait wasnt Karl Marx the 'father' of communism? real nice.
- I realize there is reverse correlation between religiosity and intelligence but implying that all intellectuals are Atheist is a little grandiose (not to mention false).
- 130 and an atheist. .
- So what? That proves nothing, AM I supposed to say that you are right and I am wrong? Am I supposed to say it makes \me feel like a fool? Is tjhat what you want? Do you want me to tell you that you are much superior than I am just because you don't believe in God? Forget it, friend. It won't happen.
- I will only say the truth... You can have an iq of 180 and still be pretty dumb in a lot of ways. I don't really care what you think. Thinking you're smarter than anyone else really gets you nowhere. There are always new things to learn and see. Btw, Thomas Jefferson was one of our founding fathers, who I believe is a Christian. That quote was meant to mean that people would no longer believe in Jesus and call it a fairytale because they weren't there and didn't understand.
- YOUR ASSUMPTION IS NOT CORRECT
- What about Francis Collins? Leader of the human genome project who is now a Christian. For that matter assuming that people who are Christians are not intelligent is just stupidity on your part. I am a Christian. I am also intelligent. I have a bachelor's and master's degree in biological sciences. I am currently working on a PhD in the same. I do believe it required a good deal of intelligence on my to make it this far. Saying all Christians are stupid is akin to saying all atheists are immoral. Neither statement is true.
- Why do some of you Atheists feel the need to constantly talk down to and about others? If that is your belief then fine. But others do not have to think the way you do. Dont care how smart you think you are. When this life ends it wont matter. And you can be as intelligent as anyone in this world, but no one truly knows if there will be anything after we die. But I for one, would rather live life believing in God, and living morally right and such. When I die I dont lose either way. It doesnt cost me anything even if God does not exist. If God does happen to exist, then well, some of you are screwed. And saying that some book smart Atheists dont believe in God doesnt prove anything. Sure they were intelligent and did some good things but really, what does that prove? That supposively all their views are correct? Nope. This is a stupid "question" by an ignorant person.
- I have an IQ of 140. I've always believed in God because I am intelligent enough to be able to see that even simple biological functions are far too complicated and perfect for them to be the mere product of evolution. All generalities are dangers, even this one. Saying that ALL people with a genius IQ is an atheist is ridiculous. I also highly doubt that the link you provided is a valid one. It does, after all, say ESTIMATED IQ's of famous people. It also doesn't say whether each one was an Atheist or a Theist. I have no problem with Atheists, but I do believe you should check your facts before attacking Theists.
- The biggest problem I have is with scientist who consider themselves theists. They either use it for it's grabbing power, or they are not using to the fullest something that they should hold dear. The scientific method.
- Yeah right. Have you ever read Aquinas? Augustine? Or perhaps I should ask, would you be able to?
- I'm sorry, where does it say in your link that all those people are atheist or agnostic? Seriously, did I miss it? Besides, don't so many anti religion people always want to argue that Hitler was a Christian? I guess whatever suits their purpose for the day.
- My IQ is 145 and i cnt espelll wright! god does excist; he just hates humans and that's no one will ever see him!
- your stupid! your an atheist but you have nothing on any of these men. your IQ are with dogs and carrots.
- I was part of a school program only open to people with an IQ of at least 135, and I am religious. I was raised Christian and converted to Wicca. I know several other people who were part of the program are also still religious. BTW, misquoting people is NOT impressive. Einstein did say he was an athiest. he said "From the viewpoint of a Jesuit priest I am, of course, and have always been an atheist." (skeptically.org/thinkersonreligion/id8.html) Einstein also said that "Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind."
- It does not matter. Belief in God is not about intelligence. I know many intelligent people (atheist and religious) who are book smart but lack common sense. So, how can one relate intelligence with God if one has a high IQ but has common sense of a child? I see the lack of common sense coming from your question. It assumes that a high IQ results in atheism. That is an illogical assumption. Thus, it lacks common sense.
- Sad, they are in Hell. I'd rather be dumb and bound for Heaven, then "smart" and Hell bound.
- Why do u ask only Christians ? There r Muslims and Jews , who also believe in the presence of God. What u have said doesn't proove that all the smart ppl r athiest. Thats a coinsidence that those ppl u mentioned were athiests. What do u call the miracles which u watch on TV? What do u call those ppl whose lives were changed after they read the Bible? What do u call the high persent of the Bible book being sold every day all over the world?
- Please don't bother the Fundies with facts like that. It upsets them and causes them to read "scripture", and pray. They may seek guidance from their pastor, and ask him if "believers" are really just a bunch of low-wattage, Night of the Living Dead zombies. To do that to them, helpless and dim-witted as they are, would be cruel and inhuman. -- However, for the rest of us, the quotes you list are fascinating, and are dead center bullseyes.
- I mistrust your stats. First of all speaking of "public intellectuals" is bogus. Intellect is intellect whether public or private. Secondly, IQ tests do not really measure intelligence. Thirdly, who could possibly have any respect for the likes of Freud or Marx?
- When devising questions to measure the quotient of intelligence, I feel that several factors were not included. For instance, when Einstein's brain was sliced and put under a microscope, it showed that in a certain area of his brain, there were many connections (the dendrites actually were quite dense) When compared to a manual labourer, they found the same denseness, but in a different area of the brain. That is to say, although Einstein was considered by the intellectual community as a genius, there are other kinds of geniuses out there that do not fall under the same quotient. I don't think intellectuals could change out their own plumbing, although they probably could have told you how to do it after they had studied some. (comparatively speaking.)
- I said before & say it again there will be no athiests or agnostics in hell, because one second after the die they will see the truth, for every knee will bow down & every tongue will confess Jesus is Lord. Even satan believes & he trembles!!!!!!
- Filling a post with ridiculous made up quotes will not prove a point. It only proves you are either a propagandist or a fool susceptible to propaganda. I have read Einstein, Darwin, Sagan, Marx as well as Jefferson, Adams, Lincoln and may others. You are welcome to provide specific documents that your quotes are taken from if you would prove me wrong Collections of the entire writings of Thomas Jefferson are widely available on the web in text format and are exceptionally easy to search. Your data is flawed and subjective, you present no verifiable reference materials. As we said when I was in college, a paper without a bibliography is called fiction or opinion. It can never be called fact.
- IQ 142 Atheist. But anyways, that doesnt prove anything, and appeal to authority isnt going to get you anywhere. Moreover, the entire concept and testing which goes behind determining IQ is highly questionable.
- Their IQ means nothing to me. Some of the people with the highest IQ"s are actually the dumbest. No one can make you believe in God. Most people who try to talk to you about God is concerned for your soul. They know that a man can believe a lie and hurt himself. Since you do not believe there is a heaven or hell, it would do no good to tell you that denying the existence of God does not prevent you from giving account to God. I recently heard a man say " THERE WILL BE NO ATHEIST IN HELL" Makes a lot of sense if you think about it.
- According to a link I found, Einstein did believe in God. Here is the link: http://www.time.com/time/2007/einstein/16.html Here is the first paragraph. Did Einstein believe in God? Yes. He defined God in an impersonal, deistic fashion, but he deeply believed that God’s handiwork was reflected in the harmony of nature’s laws and the beauty of all that exists. He often invoked God, such as by saying He wouldn’t play dice, when rejecting quantum mechanics. Einstein’s belief in something larger than himself produced in him a wondrous mixture of confidence and humility. As he famously declared: “A spirit is manifest in the laws of the Universe – a spirit vastly superior to that of man, and one in the face of which we with our modest powers must feel humble. In this way the pursuit of science leads to a religious feeling of a special sort.” The reason I posted this is because it's easy to pull out a random quote from the internet and get it to support your views. I mean there are quotes from C.S. Lewis say he doesn't believe in God, but he made those before he became a Christian. Now, God says that fools are better off those than who are wise in their own eyes.
