- It really depends on the kind of world you want to create. Some stories use names from certain time periods and locations, based on the technology of the mystical world. Other stories have completely made-up names. Lord of the Rings is filled with original names, often based on Gaelic or other old languages. Eragon, on the other hand, is a mix of original names and medieval names. Harry Potter has completely normal names, with only a few original names in the mix. So it really depends on the culture and technology of your fake world. A world filled with names like "Zin Wu Yao" and "Agashi San" will trigger much different characters in the minds of your readers than a world filled with names like "Gulrich the Smithy" or "Vernon of Westscot". Hope that helps!
- I like to use the names of stars and planets to help me out. If I need more pretty soft names I use Astrid, Asare, Allora, Baijic, Corellian, Damiron, Iplis and for something more sinister you have Marchen, Nyxomous, Oxa, Strae, Talwar, Wrell. Sometimes I reverse the names of friends and family moving vowels around so that I have something prounouncable. In other cases I look to other spiritualities (Native American and Hindu are two I fall back on often.) I keep these lists when I see this question asked on YA I just cut and paste other answers and later integrate them into lists I have. Teyona Asare Mazrim Fariel Acheron Ceasaria Dekeda Desideria Dylora Yenna Ellori Zenna Xephyrius Nisimi Jaeseme Jinx Savek Hezzptra Strae Talene Sanal Talwar Sharma Shivani Dashmiri Zhanna Ulyauna Raisa Gulnara Galina Galya Ksenia Asenka
- nothing too ordinary. but you do want it to sound like all of the names are ordinary for them. take popular names of today, and change them. e.g. Rachel = Brazelle or Alex = Alouxe make them sound foreign...add in lots of Z's and X's. ending names with E often sounds good. and also add on new beginnings, like BR or GR. it depends. if you want names for dragons, etc, then you might want to make them sound more foreign. e.g. Jonathon = Jhounathn or Elizabeth = Leleizabette i'm not too sure what your looking for...more info would have been helpful, but no matter! hope this helps...
- Sky, Crystal and Luna are nice fantasy girl names Hope this helps! :)
