What are some ways to spiritually cleanse or re-energize yourself after being in contact with negativity?

Esp. if you are constant contact with negative or draining people in a sometimes hostile or unwelcoming work environment or neighborhood. Usually meditation, prayer, spiritual reading, writing, and healing visualizations work for me. Teaching continues to be energizing because I love it and my students so much. But lately I just feel that the toxicity at work (my supervisor and one of the other supervisors, both borderline) and in my downtown neighborhood is starting to get to me. I just want to sleep and surf the net in my spare time. I will be leaving my job and moving in August, but I believe in living life in the here and now. Because I have an immune disorder that is exacerbated by stress, my health has suffered off and on. I want my energy back, and I don't feel that my fatigue is strictly physical. I fear becoming as negative as some of the people I encounter on a daily basis or becoming a hermit, or burned out. I need some tips in the meantime. Much thanks.

  1. Fake it til you make it. Pretend, remain calm. Take a walk, if you can, when it is especially bothering you. Avoid those negative people as much as possible. Seek out more positive people. Take a class. Go out to movies shows, even local or school plays. Good luck

  3. Well you mentioned prayer so im guessing you're a person of faith. Now im a christian but this answer applies to any one of any faith. Just replace my faith with yours when reading this. My church has what we call accountability groups. Its a group of people that we choose that we feel would be uplifting and help us through life's obstacles. If we have a stressful day , week, month or whatever we would meet at least once a week as a group but stay in touch every day. It helps to vent frustration to theses guys. Sometimes it just helps to let it all out. It wont fix the problem but it will help you deal with it. It sounds like its temporary any way since youre movving. I hope this helps you!
  4. I find the best thing to do when I feel myself being influenced by the negative people around me is to jump start my positive thinking and not let their negativism affect me. Positive is always stronger than negative so let your positive outlook influence them instead of vise versa. It might be you are letting your physical ailment affect your positivism.
