- Reverse meaning is applied to a card when it appears reversed and the reader choses to read it reversed. Reversed (or "ill-dignified") usually means that it appears up-side-down when pulled from the deck. Occasionally, however, it simply means that the card appears in the spread surrounded by "negative" cards... It really depends on the reader, the reading and the layout they are using. I don't know any professional readers who read cards "reversed" and most will flip any card that appears up-side-down back to right-side-up because they believe that there is a perfectly adequate amount of meaning already in the 78 cards without having to confuse everything by turning them around. As far as a deck with only 12 cards? I've never heard of such a thing! Which cards would they be? I've heard of decks that are only 23 cards instead of the traditional 78 cards (basically just the major arcana suit) and even if you wanted just one of the four basic suits, there are 14 cards per suit, but I can't even imagine which cards would be in a deck of only 12. Are you sure it's a tarot deck you're looking for? Oracle decks (which are different then the tarot system) are made up of any number of cards from less then 10 to more then 100 and are usually not arranged in suits, like the tarot. -Scarlet
