What is the Hindu spiritual perspective on healing?
I am studying to be a counselor and am trying to learn about how people of other faiths approach healing and health care. I appreciate any help you can provide regarding these questions. How to people of the Hindu faith approach healing for illness? What are the critical components for healing (meditation, prayers, etc.)? Would the same apply for addiction counseling and treatment? Is there anything that would be important for a health care provider of a different faith to know? What is the perception of health care providers from different faiths who put their own beliefs aside to put patients needs first?

- Ist of all Hinduism is not a religion. It is a culture people of southern asia(india, pakisthan, srilanka etc) followed form thousands of years.unfortunatel it is almost lost by miss understandings & and wars. Now for ur question-Ayurveda is 4th veda in Hindu culture which deals with complete health of a person. It includes dite, meditation, prayers and medicinal herbs for all most all kinds of deceases,Belive it or not including cancer!.i actualy know a person cuered his cancer with meditation and his will power with help of an old ayurvedic Dr.there are proof that in old india saint call Sushruta done operations.I say there is 1000 times more than this to know in India about healing for illness. There are again many types of treatements in Hinduism including tribal, local treatements.I don't know ur nativity but i say if u want 2 know about what u r looking 4.INDIA is the BEST PLACE TO FIND IT.u will get way of treatements in almost all faith hindu, muslim, christians, sikhism, buddism .........etc.Find what ever u want in india.IF ANYTHING IN MY ANSWER HURT ANY BODY, I AM SORRY!!!
- 1. Healing is considered to be a side-effect of Spiritual processes. It is not the aim of Spiritual endeavor called Yoga. 2. "Shariaramadyam khalu dharma saadhanam" - All the spiritual endeavor starts from a healthy body. Hence good health is considered as a tool to go further into deeper spiritual experience, awareness, which is very relaxing to the body and to the subtle vital energy called prana. 3. There are many methods in Hatha Yoga, to practice yogic physical postures and Pranayama (breathing exercises) which are very beneficial to heal many diseases, increase immunity but if these are done only for good heath, then it is not seen as spiritual processes. 4. Ayurveda is science of verbal medicine, although it is part of ancient Indian scriptures, it is not seen in the Hindu spiritual perspective. 5. Many spiritual masters have mastered subtle energies by which they can heal many types of diseases just by their touch or wish.
