Why do people bother believing in horoscopes?
I mean, seriously? Horoscopes are as out there as Greek gods or leprechauns... Why would people want to believe that who they are is based on when they happened to be born? And especially now that they've figured out more about this stuff and that most of the measurements are wrong, which would change everything, but people just stick to the "science" of the 1600s... it just makes ABSOLUTELY no sense to me. Why the heck would my personality and feelings be determined by where the planets were positioned when I was born?

- no more ridiculous than religion...
- IDK its FUN!
- I don't believe in the horoscopes that you would find in a newspaper or a magazine. I don't really believe in future -telling. I believe in astrology, what predicts a person's personality. If you look up your sign with an open mind, I bet you would see some similarities between the sign and you. Whenever I first read about my sign, I was thinking "wow, this is me, dead on."
- It passes the time... If you really do want to find out a little more about it, you should try getting a natal chart done. While I recommend getting a chart interpreted by an astrologer in person, a good "mini" reading can be obtained for free at Astro.com. A natal chart is a mathematical graph depicting the exact location of each of the planets at the moment of the person's birth. It, like the person, cannot be duplicated in 25,000 years. It, like the person, is unique and describes ten basic and distinct urges and behaviors found in each of us. To calculate the placements in a natal chart you'll need the person's time and place of birth. Then go to http://www.astro-software.com , enter the data, and the program will produce a chart that tells you all the placements and a brief delineation of each.
- Why do you bother questioning our beliefs in the horoscope section?
- "Astrology is a science in itself and contains an illuminating body of knowledge. It taught me many things and I am greatly indebted to it. Geophysical evidence reveals the power of the stars and planets in relation to the terrestrial. In turn, astrology reinforces this power to some extent. This is why astrology is like a life giving elixir to mankind." - Albert Einstein
- I don't really find it to be a bother. As an answerer above said, check it out for yourself. You are currently forming an opinion of it from the outside, not from the inside. Astrology (and the mythology it is linked to) is quite a profound topic. We can understand much about ourselves by looking back at the concepts formed by earlier humans in the contexts of their societies. It is most especially striking when different cultures arrive at similar conclusions. The measurements are not wrong, by the way. Astrology is the way it is for a reason. Astrologers also do not purport that personality and feelings are necessarily determined by the planets, let alone anything else. The planets merely represent wider inclinations that govern all creatures and are not necessarily the causes of these inclinations. Astrology allows for free will. As you can see, you're not entirely fully informed on the topic. Of course no one should expect you to be or demand that you be, I'm just trying to show you that astrology isn't the way you are currently interpreting it. When you see what astrology really is, you may be able to answer your own original question.
- I don't believe in 'horoscopes' as you put it, but I do find astrology interesting & quite accurate.
- I think people believe in astrology because they find that some of it is true.
- Emmy's quite right. It's easy to believe that everything about horoscopes is true because one part is. Usually that one part describes what people want to hear. If someone is quite in love with themselves and the description for their star sign is that they are charismatic and charming and the king/queen of the party, then, obviously they're going to lap all that stuff up like a hungry dog. But honestly, you're asking such a question in the horoscopes section. That's like asking in the Beauty section: Why do you care which foundation you're using? You guys will all age and get wrinkles and be fat anyway.' Not gonna get a great response there, buddy.
