How should I learn to read tarot cards?

I have recently become interested in exploring my spiritual side and am interested in learning how to read tarot cards. I have sought some advice from a reputable tarot reader and she told me to simply stop trying to learn by reading books and just try practicing by reading on what my intuition says when I see the card. Is there anything else I should be doing? Should I be practicing in front of a friend, or should I try to do a reading on others by myself. I dont know how to go about developing my skills. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Kat

  1. Better spend your time on reading a science book.
  2. English or Spanish in America
  3. I put post-its on the cards or write on the edges
  4. >> I have sought some advice from a reputable tarot reader That is a contradiction in terms. >> and she told me to simply stop trying to learn by reading books she must not be selling any at the moment. >> and just try practicing by reading on what my intuition says when I see the card. Translation: Just make sh!t up like I do. >> Is there anything else I should be doing? Your homework, for starters.
  5. Don't most decks come with instruction booklets that offer meanings to individual cards as well as the suit overall and the numbers, as well as different layouts the reader can try? To the guy above: It is possible to study science AND tarot, smartie.
  6. websites my dear. look at different spreads and interpretations and play around until you create a system you feel you can work with.
  7. There are books on "how to" read tarot. You will learn what each card represents and you will need to memorize them. When you buy a new deck of tarot cards it comes with a small pamphlet inside on how to read them. It's not difficult, but does take practice. You will learn not only what each card is called and represents, but the layouts for different readings. The more you practice, the better you get. THEN you will be able to "feel" as the tarot reader told you. She can't give you her secret or she wouldn't make any money. Her secret is to memorize the cards meanings and the layouts. Good luck, have fun.
  8. Hmmm....here's an idea: Start a Tarot journal. Every morning do a one card reading for the day and write down what you think the card is saying. Then go through your day. When the day is over write down what happened during the day and compare it to what you predicted that morning. It may be spot-on, it may be completely wrong. But just keep doing it. Eventually you'll find a pattern. Doing this will allow you to develop a personal and subconscious meaning for each card. Your interpretations may be completely different from what you find in a typical Tarot book, but that's just fine. Also do simple readings for your friends. Your friends will need to be completely honest with you about whether your predictions are right. After trail and error you'll soon see the true meaning of the cards. Make sure to practice. Read, watch videos, ask questions. Just keep learning.
  9. It is impossible to read tarot cards for the purpose of spirituality.
  10. The Tarot reader was correct, books won't teach you how to read Tarot. The mistake I made learning Tarot, and I think most people make, is trying to learn Tarot from a book that gives meanings for each card. Tarot isn't about thinking it's about feeling. It's about using your intuition and going with the images before you to create the words. That's why women find it easier to read Tarot than men as men tend to forget feelings and intuition and focus on problem solving. It's also why science will never understand it. Like everything else we learn in life, once you've learned it you don't think about doing it you just do it. As long as you think about Tarot you won't be able to do it successfully. So you need to pick up the basics and move on to working on your intuition as quickly as you can. The best advice I can give is to learn not the meaning of each card but the meaning behind the symbolism on the cards. Start by learning the meaning of the 4 classical elements (water, fire, air, earth) and then learn the symbolic meaning of the numbers 0(for the fool), 1,2,3,4,5,5,6,7,8,9. This symbolism is the numerology of Tarot. Once I learned this I stopped picking up the books to look up the interpretation of each card. Now I don't think about them. I just see and feel what they are saying. I wrote a Tarot tutorial on line here to help : http://phuture.me/tarot/tarot-tutor/tarot-explained http://phuture.me/tarot/tarot-tutor/the-4-elements http://phuture.me/tarot/tarot-tutor/tarots-numerology There is also an online digital Tarot deck here that you can use to practice with if you don't yet own your own deck of cards: http://phuture.me/tarot/tarot-spread
