Can one go in a convent????

I REALLY need help on this one. I've find myself in the necessity of retreating for at least 3 weeks. I've been thinking of going on a vacation to a nice 'quiet' place but I truly doubt there is such a place. Sooo I've been thinking that the most convenient place is a convent. The problem is that I don't know of any near convents. And most important of all. Can one go in and stay in a convent if one only nreds the time to be spiritual healed or one goes in a convent to just become a nun...?????? PLEASE HELP!!!!!

  1. There are several convents and monasteries that offer just such a retreat as you are seeking. Not too long ago, I went on a retreat to Holy Cross Monastery in Upstate New York and absolutely loved. To answer your question, no. One doesn't need to become a nun (or monk) to visit a convent. Many times, talking to your priest/reverend/minister will allow them to suggest a local convent or monastery. The other option is to seek one out on your own and ask to speak with the director or head nun/monk. I would love to give you some ideas, but you failed to state where you were located, so I'm not sure of what is available near you. By the way, nearly every religion has a retreat system in place for needs just like this. Whether it is Buddhist, Hindu, Christian or Muslim... everyone needs a spiritual 're-charging' once in a while. Bless you and hope you find one that fills your needs. P.S. I should probably mention that some of the retreats do not allow for continuous stays, a few places have guidelines set up for the protection of the nuns or monks - such as the retreats only lasting from Wednesday through Sunday or Monday through Saturday... this is for the spiritual sanctity of the convent/monastery. Remember that you are looking to return to your life, whereas this IS the life chosen by the nuns/monks. Luck, JC
